la planete sauvage/fantastic planet - 7/10 kind of a trip, well animated before computers could do it all. very visually appealing.

Man of Steel - 5/10

Damn.. there were so many holes in that movie my god. The story was just crap. Just crap. The action was pretty well done though and the only reason it gets any stars at all.

you watch superhero movies for the plot? i thought it was so you could see hulk smashing shit and superman fucking shit up. i got all i needed from MoS.

then again im a HUGE comic nerd so anything comic related is automatically awesome in my book.

i even liked the green lantern movie.

i feel like the batman movies raised peoples expectations of superhero movies too high.

There was jut so much stuff that didn't make sense..

one thing that sticks out is how superman gets weak on the alien ship because.. it's atmosphere is like kryptons? And superman is only used to earth's atmosphere? So then after the 'dad' adjusts the atmosphere back to earth standards superman is strong again...

so then, how is superman able to fly around in space where there is no atmosphere at all right off the bat with no issues?

Or how about why does this super advanced race die out completely? Why is every single one of their thousands of colonies across the galaxy extinct? Why is it that this super advanced race failed at colonizing a single planet? And why are these aliens total badasses on earth and can move at super human speeds and strength, able to take incredible amounts of damage, but in the opening scenes they fight slowly and with firearms, dying easily and not appearing to have any significant powers besides their big plasma-type guns?

actually not to nerd out here but everything you just asked is explained in the comics pretty thoroughly. they just didnt do a great job of explaining alot of the superman mythology in the movie.

LOVE ghost in the shell

Riddick - Entertaining enough. If you like vin diesels character from the other riddick movies(pitch black) you'll enjoy it. Nothing special though.

Man of Steel - typical superhero movie for the most part. Design/animation was cool. Actors meh.

Captain Phillips - Hard not to like tom hanks. Story of a somali pirate hijacking an american cargo ship. Pretty well done. Nothing special really, but good enough.

Dante's Inferno - animated film about a dude traversing the 9 levels of hell to save his wife/fight lucifer. Feels like a christian version of the storyline from the God Of War games. I enjoyed it. Was cool.

the acting in MoS was horrible. that i agree with. i dont know why they would hire basically what seems like a supermodel who cant act for shit to play superman. theres got to be some actual good actor that they could have found.

i dont know, for me MoS was not meant to be about an amazing plot and amazing actors though. it was just meant to be an inspiring movie where you watched a dude flying through the sky and creating craters beneath his feet and being punched through skyscrapers.

Superman seems to me like the kind of thing where it needs to be over the top camp(like the older movies) or done really really well as far as storytelling, special effects and originality. Everyone knows the origin story so much by now that we could use to have something a bit different so we don't have to have the same re-hashed not quite good not quite horrible movie come out every 10-15 years or so.

For example when they re-booted the Spider Man franchise they brought in the Gwen Stacy angle, mixed up the origin story of how Peter got his powers, fucked with the Uncle Ben story. So it at least seemed like we were getting something slightly new.

fight back to school III

was hesitant to watch this after the bizarre sequel (fight back to school II), but the plot is nearly completely unrelated and it was funny throughout. fight back to school (the first one) is also good.

And why is Superman intent on protecting America's interests specifically?

Throughout the whole movie it's like, protect humanity, save humanity, human kind is / isn't ready for you superman. But the very last thing we get is, "How do we know you'll protect American interests?" or something along those lines, and then "I was born in Kansas I'm as American as you can get h'yuk'yuk'yuk"

thats because he lives in america and primarily does his super-hero-ing in america. it would make sense that the american government would ask him how they can be sure hes on their side considering his like a god. if he had been in canada at that moment im sure the canadian government would have said the same thing.

i mean really, superman was created at a very xenophobic time for america and i think the movie did a good job explaining that he was going to be an example for ALL people to follow, not just americans. humans in general. like you say throughout the movie its all humanity this humanity that. but he did crash land in his pod in america, he is an america, he does live here, and he does his shit here.

its not like NATO is going to come in whenever superman gets involved.

i dunno. your gripes are legit, im just giving my best answers here. its not like the movie is the godfather, its just a silly comic movie. comic movies arent meant to be taken seriously, thats why i say the batman movies fucking ruined it.

avengers is my prototypical superhero movie. not batman. i dont want the moviemaker to focus on realizing the world, i want the moviemaker to focus on realizing what makes comics so fun- absurdity, campness like grieves said, and creating this weird familiar-yet-not-familiar alternate universe where people can fly around and they wear batsuits and go do good.
