Star Trek online!

Release date is Feb. 2 2010...AWESOME!

Anyone else looking forward to getting nice and blazed and pulling that starship out of spacedock for the first time? (not to mention embracing your inner geek!)

I would be excited if every MMORPG's weren't just the same god damn hack n' slash game and pointless "quests" while talking to NPC's and other players who spend entirely too much time playing the game just to get some stupid ass piece of equipment that just allows you to hack n' slash bigger enemies that drop even bigger piece of equipment that allow you to....well, you get the idea.

I prefer my video games not to feel like a part time job that I need to pay money to go to.

thats alot like how this game is. you can fly around doing space combat and missions, some take you down to the ground on that planet and when your grounded it plays ALOT like mass effect minus the dialogue crap so its been pretty entertaining. ill prob wait til its been out for a while before i buy it for 50 bucks tho. got burned again on aion going to the shitter thats like 4 mmos in a row that ive bought that went to shit in a couple months

Can you re-route the main plasma conduits? I always wanted to do that.

Unless they've somehow reworked the same old mmorpg formula I will have no part in it... unless its free per month. Which it isn't. Ego tripping nailed it - a big long grind just so you can say once every few hours, 'oh look, it got better!!!

D&D online is the only one I play because it's totally free per month... and then I havent played it in a couple months now.

ps: flying your own starship is pretty cool though.

do not buy this game. its mediocre at best, good for 20-30hrs but the company that makes it is total doushbaggery. They put out champions online in november, the support from the get go was shitty, there wasnt nearly enough content, not enough places to level, shit loads of bugs etc. The company started spending all its time and resources on star trek online after champions released since Atari will pay them 20 million dollar bonus if they release STO on time. This meant champions got shit on and there was a ton of people who bought lifetime subscriptions for champions (almost 300 dollars) only to have a fat dump taken on their chest when the devs straight up told everyone they wouldnt be fixing much or putting out new content for champions until STO hit the shelves.

Now open beta is over for STO, its 100% not ready for release. I hit the max level in 24hrs of playtime literally. theres barely any content at all. every mission is literally go to this planet scan 5 asteroids. go to the planet next to it and kill 5 enemy ships. go to the next planet and scan 5 asteroids. go to the next planet and scan 5 asteroids that are being defended by 5 ships. with ground missions being the exact same thing except that combat on ground is like 25% of the time compared to scanning and in space its about 50/50. Atari has their checkbooks out and STO is releasing on tuesday. Now yesterday the devs posted a state of the game for champions online letting everyone know what bugs were getting patched next, what spells were being balanced, AND A NEW AREA WITH NEW QUESTS!!!!

that sounds awesome right?

wrong. the new "expansion" area is 1 small town with 3 levels of quests. and its not even new levels its just another place to do 3 of the levels already in the game. oh boo hoo right? not enough content for poor babies?

WRONG AGAIN

they are charging money for this patch and calling it an expansion pack. 4 months after the game released, with tons of shit that needs to be fixed and the content they are adding is shit that should been in at release.

way to shit on your life time subscribers devs.

the real kicker is that star trek online life time subscriptions are like the most popular method of subscribing. 300 dollars going straight to the developers whos first content on their other MMO ends up being a paid for expansion even tho thousands of people already plunked down 300 dollars for subcription. what motivation do devs have to bringing out new content and keeping subscribers happy when you have already givin them all the money that they could have possibly earned from you from the entire run of the life of the game.

Unless this game makes it possible to tap me some fine Uhura ass, I just can't see the point.
