ww2 in hd on history channel

anybody seen any of the episodes ? its pretty damn cool, its got a bunch of famous people like ll cool j doing voiceovers of the diaries of people who were in ww2 on various sides and shit, and the entire doc features high quality color footage of various things , much of which ive never seen before...

its like the first ww2 documentary ive seen with a modern feel to it, which is sweet, because it makes it far more dramatic and better to watch than most of the ones ive seen, and the narrator is the same narrator from the when we left earth documentary- hes got a sweet documentary voice...

so anybody else checking it out ? its on now check it out!

Yea man that shows awesome, I've seen a couple of episodes, pretty graphic. I was like "holy shit" at some stuff...burned people and what not. The only thing that kinda sucks is that most of the video is still crappy quality just in color, I cant imagine that shit looking like a movie or something. And Gary Senise, I think thats how you spell it, is great in everything to me haha.

Seriously, if I wanted to I could just throw the next gay guy I come across right up against a wall and give him an anal assault and he wouldn't complain one bit.

I'm under the impression that most, if not all film, is higher definition than bluray, dvd, vhs etc. When they transfer film to a massively distributable format they are always losing some quality from the original. it's just if the original is not the best quality, i wouldn't expect the HD transfer to magically fix it. With a subpar or old video source, they can only preserve its look as good as the original is, but it would still be in modern day HD resolutions etc.

Bluray is just the current best way of storing film at good quality on a media that is practical and cheap enough to mass produce.

i only got to see one episode

i am very disappointed as I was really looking forward to it. I am a history buff as it is. and WWII is a strong point for me. what I did see was incredible though, some of the best quality footage I've ever seen.

I hope this becomes available on the internet.

There was a touch of sarcasm in my original post, it's actually a yes and no answer.

The best (colour) footage of WW2 tends to have been shot on the rarer, more expensive (and far more complicated for the early 40's) 16mm film. The majority is on 8mm film though iirc, which even then retains a native resolution way higher than standard definition (640x480, NTSC grade) so owning an 8mm wasn't too far off a modern day SLR in terms of quality.

My only gripe with "HD" WW2 footage is the fact that 70 years ago they were far from perfecting the conversion from film to reel, so a degree of natural flaws always surfaced. Combined with the fact that these were shot on a battlefield, with incredibly fragile systems, and have been stored in god knows what condition for the last 70 years.

That said, it's a miracle there's any watchable footage left from WW2 at all, and frankly amazing there's stuff left in such awesome quality, at all.

Just watched the first 2 episodes, definitely shaping out to be a great series. Some intense footage and interesting stories.
