Avatar
Fucking badass movie. I saw it yesterday, and it was just amazing. The world of Pandora that Cameron creates in his movie is breathtaking. Sure, it's just another movie about corporate imperialism, but it's a really really good movie about corporate imperialism.
I give it two thumbs up (not my ass). ![]() The Rev |

We saw Avatar last night, stoned and in IMAX 3-D.
I thought the movie was pretty damn amazing and I'm looking forward to taking the kids to see it. The visuals were stunning. The 3-D was amazing. Beautiful movie! Some of the rituals in the movie reminded me of the Balinese Ceyak Monkey Chant. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RkxuPxdsZ58&hl=en_US &fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScree n" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptacc ess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RkxuPxdsZ58&hl=en_US &fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="a lways" allowfullscreen="tru e" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> -Hedons

I saw it, and did not like it...I thought it was too glossed over, the worlds didn't feel lived in, the story had no soul, it had no depth, it was badly predictable, and the characters were not believable, the story telling was terribly flawed, it just shows if you can spend 300 mil making it look pretty then the masses will eat it up regardless of the lack of true storytelling....

Both district 9 and 9 by peter jackson and the dude who did wanted with production by tim burton were much better portals into alternate realities made this year, imo...

They shouldn't release the budget of movies until they are release to dvd. I wonder how many people's opinions would change...
same goes with directors.

Pretty much everyone knew I wouldn't say Avatar was bland though. Predictable for sure. But so are most movies. I mean inglorious basterds practically went through the motions with its plot but it was still good. Lord of the rings was amazing, but pretty much everyone knew exactly how it goes beforehand. Of course I can't argue bland with you, that's totally a matter of preference. Anyway, Avatar was awesome. I'm seeing it again in Imax this time... I'm stoked.

I saw Avatar.. I 100% recommend seeing it.. you won't be disappointed. Just make sure you smoke a fatty before hand, maybe a beer or two as well.

Saw it in Imax, quite good, but nothing to write home about. Loved Pandora and wish I could sit through another 3 hours of just watching that beautiful. The typical Marine stereotype for the 'villian' was a bit lame, almost tongue in cheek or something. The story was meh, was as predictable as I thought it would be. All in all, a solid A in terms of the movie but a D in terms of storyline and character development...C average for this one.

Avatar wasn't that great... visually and aurally it was amazing, and I'd go to see it again in a heartbeat... but as a movie the storyline and all of the characters were really clichéd and obvious. But it's only worth going for the sensory experience alone.
The dialogue was mediocre at best and the acting was done better by the art director and his crew of Merry Na'vi Makers than the human actors. They were stiff and boring. The storyline is contrived beyond belief. It was shamelessly robbed from every [insert white male in new culture] movie, every [insert alien or human race moving to a new planet/Earth and wanting natural resources from the foreign race] movie, and [insert unsophisticated underdogs with weaker technology fight against bad guys with better technology] movie. You guys act like no one has ever made a motion capture film or a live-action 3D movie before. How is this ground-breaking? The Curious Case of Benjamin Button wowed me over a year ago by doing some of the best facial-motion capture material I have seen, easily more impressive than this film since it involved making actual human faces rather than aliens, which people expect to look somewhat abnormal. The motion capture in this film was good, the 3D was above-average, the CGI was good, but how does that make this film groundbreaking? I can name several other films that are as good or better in any one of those categories. You guys are overemphasizing this film's accomplishments. Not to mention ignoring how abysmally bad the actual movie is. This is merely the most beautiful 80s action flick ever. Killer effects but not much of a story, sure you can call it a great movie but only after you have turned your brain off. And that's not a bad thing, but no, it certainly does not deserve praise along the lines of "Best Movie of 2009" or "Academy Contender." "Oh James Cameron, you took one one beautiful dump and called it Avatar." ![]() And I think we should be wary of this frightening trend of partially/formerly human heroes that twinkle. There are far too many of them being made. Also, consider merging this thread with this one http://www.yahooka.com/forum/multime...20-avatar.html

I was convinced to go see it but tickets were sold out for the show, and I didn't feel like waiting another hour for the next.
It seems like the majority of the praise for this movie is for it's 'groundbreaking' visuals and blah blah blah. For me personally, such things come second as it's the depth and resonance of the story itself that takes priority. It's like looking up an advertisement for a car and seeing "BRAND NEW 'CAR' WITH $10 000 AIRBRUSH DESIGNS!"... cool... but how is the engine? Breaks? Transmission? You know, the things that are integral to a car actually working? I've heard people argue the story for this does have depth, but it's a depth that has apparently been done to death in a number of previous films (I'll leave comparisons out as they too have been done to death). Although I've seen neither, I'll admit from what I've heard and read that this movie is at least a fews steps up from Transformers 2, but still follows the shallow movie trend.
