Playstation slim

I got the 120GB one but really don't see the point of such a large HD when everything is/will be basically streamed from my computer. 1st off, I got the MediaLink software for my Mac. This enables access to movie files, photos, music, etc. Also got my son (who I bought for him to game on) a cheap Indiana Jones Lagos game and it plays as well as anyone would expect in HD glory. My son loves it as does my wife even.

Love the system to complete my home theater over tv any day due to the sheer versatility as it will play virtually anything (blueray bonus) and tv is so limited (plus no blueray or close to comparable gaming. experience).

What I didn't like are all the extras you need or should buy to make the system complete - two gimmies are HDMI cable (and a 3:1 switch if you need it - I do) and an extra BT controller (which I bought only to find it does not even include the charging cable - found one in my bag of "useless" cables though so F-You Sony).

Streams all my movies like butter connected via ethernet to my Airport Express. Getting online was as simple as plugging in.

game saves can be upwards of 1 gb, projected over a 5 yr lifecycle it is more than feasible that one would play over 100 games, at 20 per year or to store digital media on it...

Extras will always cost extra and for 299 you certainly should not receive an hdmi cable as it is not the standard yet, nor should you receive a second controller as part of the base unit, it has been well over two generations since the 2nd controller bundle was abandoned...I find it more of a travesty that people pay upwards of 10 dollars to customize their virtual avatars than to pay 60 bucks once, or make someone else pay 60 bucks if they want to play on my system...

There are a few things the slim is missing. The extra USB port on the back (they should ALL be on the back - good thing there is good battery life w/the BT controllers so that the fugly cables are never plugged in). The Linux thing is also pretty lame. But the slim runs so much cooler, silently, that I think it will last for years (durability factor). Plus there are always the possibility for software updates or hacks?

Streaming is where it's at for media content for me and is the main reason I got the PS3. But I got to admit, I'm getting sucked into the demos then wanting them (old favorites like Tiger Woods [2010 version]). And I'm not even a gamer.

The reason any one would even consider a Playstation is for HD. You got to be kidding me. That is the 1st thing Sony themselves promote the hell out of. ANd no ethernet cable? Talk about nickel and dimming your customers.

if you have internet, you should have a Ethernet cable or wireless, which is not sony's responsibility, so that is a moot point. Also not everyone buys the ps3 for blu-ray, most still buy it for the gaming factor, which certainly suffers when less than high def but is not unplayable...You are just trying to split hairs....

I have a million cables laying around. Just not a long enough ethernet cable. If it's no big deal, include it along with an HDMI cable. Verizon doesn't give you an HD box w/out the cable.

they got sick of people accusing them of price gouging and charging them for things they wont need during their personal use. thats the entire reason behind these barebones packages...

dont you think sony would rather charge 399 and throw a controller in or 450 with a control +hdmi

The reason there's no ethenet cable (altho i guess mine did come one.. 80gb ps3) is that it comes with built in wi-fi.

And i sure wish my ps3 was 120 gb. I constantly have to uninstall old games to play new ones on my 80gb. Some of the games require in the 4gb range. I'm also a sadistic gamer and have more than a 1000 bucks worht of games tho...

Yep, they are stupid. The cheapest one they had a Walmart was $30. I needed it right away as Christmas was only a couple of days away. So I purchased it at Walmart, kept the box and receipt, and then ordered the two I needed online for $12.99 including shipping. After I got them in the mail I returned the rip-off HDMI cable back to Walmart.

I had to get creative.

Easiest upgrade ever.

I also just added the Best Buy warranty as I don't trust these things.

My brother works at futureshop and what they charge for hdmi cables is ridiculous. For a cable they charge $70-80 for, he pays $8(cost + 10%). Although good hdmi cables can be found online for more reasonable prices, they still have pretty huge mark ups.

For the hdmi cables/speaker wires i have for my system, the retail cost would have been about $400(at futureshop/bestbuy), we got them for about $45. Big electronic stores make a fair bit of there profit on the accessory shit. Another strange thing is they pretty much sell consoles at cost. If my bro was to use his staff discount to get a ps3 or xbox, he would actually end up paying slightly more than retail. They make most of there money back on the associated products involved.
