Linux - Ubuntu 9.10

Hey gang, i'm back. I installed Ubuntu on my system so i finally have a working system.

So im a first time user or Ubuntu (or Linux for that matter)

Ive seen it and used a few apps on a friends computer, but other than that have no idea what I'm doing, and I know there are some computer wizards on here.

Basically my problem is that im on a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop and i need to enable the wireless (normally I need to press Fn+F2 to get it to turn on).
I've downloaded the driver and used ndisgtk to import the inf file for ndiswrapper and it showed up, but says it cannot find a network configuration tool. When i reopen the windows wireless drivers thing it says unable to see if hardware is present.
In the network tools window it says the state is inactive. I try pressing fn+f2 but the light and modem will not show up.

Ive been looking at troubleshooting a nd forums galore, but none of them are 9.10 (or usually even close) and end up not working for me. Ive used some of the following pages from the ubuntu.com site:

https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/interne...iswrapper.html
https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/interne...eshooting.html

So please, any help will so greatly appreciated. I really need this working. Any info i can provide, just let me know, I don't really know how to and what info you guys might need.
