Pretty cool. If i had extra money just laying around and already the computer i wanted, id buy it. Its not a laptop replacement though, thats for sure.

i just glanced over that page, and i wonder why i see an on-screen keyboard but no script-to-text function. i would imagine that to be ideal, but it doesn't seem like this thing's got a stylus anyhow

Tablets have uses, and they can be a fun alternative between laptops and pda's. Its not to replace either, tablets were never meant to just like netbooks weren't meant to replace laptops

i think it's retarded. the best device for pictures, web, and mail is still the pc.
if i need to see 'a page at a time' i can up my monitor's resolution.

it's just more software & hardware bloat from mac..

Yeah there's tablets, and there's the iPad. It's got a 1ghz processor ffs, it's a giant ipod. I think the only feature i've read so far, that the iPod doesn't offer is book reading, big whoop.

People are going to hate sub par technology no matter who makes it. It just falls against apples favour that they happen to be pioneers of "trendy" technology. If the announced price is even somewhat comparable in the uk (which isn't the case with any apple product so far, example $99 iphones in the US, versus £600 ones here) it might be worth it for lulz, but probably not.

It's also probably worth your while comparing the hardware spec of half the thing's on that wikipedia link, with the iPad, before hailing it's greatness. It can't play games, it doesn't have a proper OS for running utilities, other than the apps you're charged for. man, I don't even know how many times this needs to be explained to you, I know it has before. The iphone started at expensive here in the U.S. until ATT decided to pay for part of the phone to get more people to sign up for the plans. jesus. its the same with all cell phones, the service companies pay the manufacturers for the phones so they can sel them and make the difference up in service charges.fuck.

It may not have as good as tech specs, but yes, it does play games (as well as a lot of the other apps on the app store-awesome for developers), so there is quite a lot of uses, and it has an OS proven to work great with touchscreens.

Well done at mastering basic marketing, which has literally nothing relevant to my point. Do you think the UK is some fourth dimension to marketing economy? It's still overpriced compared to the US, for the exact same technology, even with various contractor plans. As are Ipods, Imacs, notebooks, and basically everything else apple makes.

Exactly, it's not replacing anything, so what's the point? It plays the same games as the Ipod/phone, probably uses the same OS as the ipod/phone, and basically IS a giant Ipod/phone. If i was throwing the monetary equivalent of a cheap laptop on something, I would at the very least expect the functionality of a cheap laptop.

So shit I can do on my Ipod/phone basically? But for more money? Zomgz bargain!!!1 And "toy" is bang on the money. At least my ipod fits in my pocket, has integration with my car (which I'm sure the Ifad has as well, I just doubt it would fit in my console), but despite the iPod using itunes, which is the most godawful program known to man, it still has it's uses, because of which I would value it slightly more than a "toy".

Don't get me wrong, as I posted elsewhere, it's fairly sexy in terms of aesthetics and ergonomics, it's just fucking useless.

regardless of whether or not the ipad is anything worth buying.. you are still wrong. funny you should use the word "bloat" because I guarantee a macbook pro can doing anything, save run a few programs, infinitely better than any virus bloated, sluggish PC you have. guarantee.
