Time to reign in the Internet.

The truth of the matter is, the Internet is still in its Wild West phase. To a large extent, the law hasn’t yet shown up. Yet as more and more people move to town, that lawlessness is becoming a bigger and bigger problem. As human societies grow over time they develop more rigid standards for themselves in order to handle their increased size. There is no reason to think the Internet shouldn’t follow the same pattern.

Time Magazine has enthusiastically jumped on the bandwagon to back Microsoft executive Craig Mundie’s call for Internet licensing, as authorities push for a system even more stifling than in Communist China, where only people with government permission would be allowed to express free speech.

well yeah there probably isn't anything to worry about. all i'm saying is that if you're going to steal copyrighted stuff and get caught, don't bitch about it.

Where did I bitch and complain? I just said fuck them and their threats, and kept going and will continue to do so.

Why do people love to read into the smallest things and then jump to huge ASSumptions around here and shoot their mouths off? Some people here do this every chance they get. They are known as trolls. This seems to happen in yahooka more than any other site I visit.

Yeah, but that's part of our charm.

I am interested to see what happens when the law comes to town. Unlike the wild west, no one is being gunned down in the virtual streets here. The worst we have is illegal downloads and old pervs trying to hook up with 14 year old girls (and we have that show to deal with that). However, we also have some near anarchist encryption geniuses, and their ilk for John Q. to deal with. Maybe this is the point where the tide turns? I hope so.

When the average guy stops believing that the system will give him what he needs for his service, the system get's pwned by the average guy. That's been the deal for centuries. "You can enslave us, just make sure we get what we need." And as technology has improved, what we need has gone from enough to eat, to having some basic luxuries. As the rich get richer, we only expect to get a little richer too. Woe to the master class that squeezes its slaves too hard (I'm looking at you, Republicans).

I liked how everyone missed this. It was the movie studio tracking that torrent, not Verizon. I'm not sure how it is with Verizon, but having read the fine print from Comcast, you have to download/upload over 250 gigs per month for them to even send you a notification letter. As Waves said, unless you're seeding a great volume of torrents and have the bandwidth to do so you've got nothing to worry about.

In other words, that is not some serious shit, it's not even a threat, at least not from your internet provider.

Learn to p2p shield anyway noobs.

Do you think the studio tracks it to catch people, or to better assess the popularity and demand for their movies?
