[OFFICIAL] Final Fantasy XIII
So, anyone else got their preorders for this yet? Game comes out on the 9th of March, just under 2 weeks now and I just put down $10 on it today.
I gotta say I am freakin' stoked. From what I know about the game (to be more precise, what I'm allowing myself to know about this game seeing as it's out in Japan) it seems way better than the disappointment that was FFXII. I loved games 6-10, there's nothing quite like an FF game, and seeing what can be done with it on the new generation of consoles is hopefully gonna kick ass. It's supposed to be fast paced, very linear (i dunno about this), and apparently the most challenging one yet. All I really want though is a fun battle system and an engaging story. Fuck 12's story. That shit was boring.

the new FF games are terrible. they ruined them when they changed the battle system and got rid of the world map

The graphics, the marks, the music, the fighting system, and the sheer variety were all great.
The story and the level of interactivity was BLehghhchch

My personal favorite...
Final Fantasy VI.
Nobuo Uematsu said not long ago in an interview that 6 has the soundtrack he's most proud of. I still feel a lump in my throat watching this scene: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/AI_JoesHLeM&hl=en_US &fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScree n" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptacc ess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/AI_JoesHLeM&hl=en_US &fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="a lways" allowfullscreen="tru e" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

final fantasy is not at all what it used to be. granted, every single one has been completely different. but the old titles (which i tentatively end at 7) had a way of capturing the imagination in ways few other rpgs could. the characters had, well, character. the worlds were highly limited but seemed expansive with hidden areas and dungeons, and 7 seemed impossibly large once you got the submarine. there was so much extraneous content -- including playable characters -- that you could play the whole game through several times without coming across. i guess i just have to accept i'm a nostalgic old fart when it comes to this kind of stuff. 6 was the definite high mark of the series. 7 gets a lot of credit because it tried a lot of new things and did them really well. but it did not exhibit the mastery of craft and medium that games like final fantasy 6 and chrono trigger did for the previous era. and sadly, such a thing has not been done since for the jrpg genre ![]() i've seen the trailers for this game and they're impressive. i'll probably give it a rental to see what it's about but my hopes are far from high

Yeah I'm getting skeptical. Apparently in this game there are no towns, no NPCs, and no world map.
Um. This is a fanal fantasy game? Well I hope it's a good game in general. I wont be expecting something like FF though.

I've played it for 6 hours and I can say that it is a good game. So far there's more story bits than in all of 12 (to exaggerate by just a little) and the battle system is a lot of fun, very fast paced.
It starts off kind of slow and really easy, but it's definitely been getting harder. By this point you do need to pay attention to what's going on and react fairly quickly in order to survive. So that's nice, many FF games tend to be not very challenging at all. I mean you can beat VII just by pressing X for 90% of the game, whereas in this you actually have to utilize all the different functions of the battle system. The game is 100% linear so far, it's been one long stream of action filled events. I am hoping there will be some kind of 'camp' scene. The action is good but I want a little down time where everyone isn't on edge and can just talk a bit. I know by having read a few articles that I won't be presented with any choices any time soon, which I don't mind so far because things have been interesting.. but time will tell if that changes. Thank you square for putting a heavy emphasis on the story and on cutscenes. There is nearly shit all for well told stories on the PS3 and this is definitely satisfying my desire for an interactive narrative. Pros so far: -cool environments and a cool concept for the world in general -awesome, awesome visuals and presentation in all respects including the voice acting and music. the production is top notch. -fun battle system -enjoyable and well told story Cons: -no towns so far or people to directly interact with (i did notice that people standing around will automatically say something to you if you bump against them though as if you pressed X) -so far leveling up has been just pressing X to unlock the next ability/stat up, no choice in progress has been presented other than what 'job' you want to do level up 1st -the controls when exploring are a little rigid. they could definitely be smoother, but this is a small qualm Anyway, I recommend anyone with a ps3 try it out, especially if you like FF games, and especialecially if you like FFX. The style of story telling is very much alike, I wouldn't be surprised if the scripters and writers that worked on this also did X.

how could someone like final fantasy x?
![]() if the battle system is anything like crisis core on psp i might check it out, because that was really fun. in fact, i would have preferred well-polished, completely linear game than how that one was. it had tons of missions you could choose from but they were just a small square of environment that you ran around until you saw a treasure chest or an enemy. the parts of the actual story, though, were cool. you might have made a sale sir ex, but i'll shed a tear with clive as well. it seems square is content with just repackaging the old titles on nintendo ds in a quick effort to cash in

I see it being unlikely they make a fully next-gen replica of the old school format. It would be extremely cool if they did it though. Screw remaking 7 lke everyone wants, I think a remake of 6 with an upgrade battle system would be freakin awesome.
Especially when kefka or whatever the bad guys name is (omg its been too long) destroys the planet. That would be so dope in next gen. Or that area with all the quick sand and sand slides.

I have played for 40 hours now and have been roaming through the area where you can have sidemissions and some choice.
It is incredible. The graphics are just so well done I am amazed at what I am seeing as I play. The game is suddenly very hard and very rewarding when you finally slay that giant, gorgeous, impossibly fluidly animated bad guy. It might just be a battle system within exploration, but boy is it slick and fun and well done. The coolness factor compounds on itself once you finally *spoilers* break free of coccoon and enter the world beyond *spoilers*. My jaw litereally has gone slack, my eyes bugged out of my head, seeing how awesome some of the stuff looks.
