The Pacific

Anyone else been following this show? I really like war movies that bring home the horror of the experience, that make it real for the audience. The acting and writing are also very good. Check it out on HBO, Sunday nights if you haven't seen it yet. They're about half way through it, but I think you can catch up on back shows at HBO.com.

We have both been watching on demand when we get the chance. I'd say this is as well done as Saving private Ryan, which is no surprise since it's done by the same directors. Hey Rev, what's your favorite war movie? I bet you'll guess mine, "I love the smell if napalm in the morning"

I'd say that's a pretty accurate guess. Apocalypse Now is one of THE great war films. Besides, Marlon Brando's character in that is amazing. Joseph Conrad would have been proud.

my grandpa was in ww2, fighting in italy for america, as an italian immigrant... i went to Italy once and on the train down towards naples we saw the castle that he fought at in one of the battles in the war....

anyway, long story short, pacific is awesome... it makes you realize what a bunch of pussies our generation is, these dudes are tough bastards and we're all a bunch of pill sniffing college dropouts collecting unemployment whining about the opposite sex and other things out of our control drowning ourselves in reality television

Well, WWll had something that the war today lacks.... Honor. The whole country was behind that war, it had a true and clear purpose.

I won't say much more, I don't want to get into my political opinions... I'll only get pissed off.

i've been digging the show although some of the characters look very similar to me especially since they're all wearing the same uniform it's hard to keep track.

Yes, by the Dick Generation (that would be everyone Dick Cheney's age).
