EA to charge extra for online rights for used games.

While this might make sense to EA since they lose $ on the purchasing of used games, it's amazing that they can be so shortsighted and not see how bad this is going to be for their PR and overall sales.

I, for one, do not buy games that have extensive DRMs or stupid things like this on principle.

More punishing of the consumer for outdated business models and content delivery methods

And the consumers will take it like the bitches they are

America is just too predictable

not a big issue for me, as I don't play their sports games...

but if this practice transfers to their FPS or other genres...I will nerdrage...oh yes...the rage will be nerdy.

soon even FPS games are going to be on an MMO subscription type plan

just watch

even if you buy a used FPS, say, Call of duty 7, you will have to sign up for their service to play online so the point will be moot. unless people actually vote with their wallets.

Bull-shit they will. This is a totally different era. There is no way the Corps will keep up with the hackers. Their methods will FAIL as they have proven to have done over and over. Even HDMI will be hacked and they will have to "update" it, make a few million tvs useless (who cares how much you spent), and then the cycle will start over. Computers can be tricked often more easily than humans with the right code.

CEO's are greedy old bags who just will never get it. Offer a good game for a good price. $60.00 per game is fucking crazy if you ask me. $30 should be the standard and 40 the absolute max. They would sell many more copies of new releases, and therefore , not have to worry as much about the used gaming market and feel the need to gouge their resenting customers.

If you're referencing the vote with your wallet part, I disagree with you. Look at how many people bought COD:MW2 for PC even though it was a console port, or Assassin's Creed 2 on PC with it's ridiculous DRM. Some people are smart, and won't stand for it/buy it, the masses...not so much.

What I am saying is there are ways around DRM now and will continue to be. You can jailbreak an iPhone easily, for example.

This.

GTA's securom had it's exploitable flaws, the trouble is with gaming related DRM's, is it's super hard to get a cracked version working online, offline's easy as pie, but for the time being, online's a different matter. But yeah, fuck EA. And Ubisoft.

I wish that EA wasn't the only company with the NFL license...But alas I am stuck buying madden ever couple of years for a glorified roster update and minor gameplay updates...Last year they tried to squeeze as much money as possible with the addition of dlc in the form of scouts/cheats/increased stats, I don't know any one who bought the pos's but it will only be a matter of time before it will take an additional 15-20 bucks on top of the 50-70 for the initial cost just to play...They aren't businessmen, they are criminals in sheep's clothing...

Exactly, that too. Other game makers could go the other way keeping it free and take business that way. Fucking stupid old CEOs will never learn.
