first, i know i know, i shouldnt of gotten a dell, i dont know why i keep going back to them when i hated my computer every time

anyway
my ethernet port's broken, and it sucks cause i pay extra to have like beyond ultra high speed internet its capable of like 80mb/s but im stuck on using my wireless bumming internet off my neighbours

so i called dell and they sent me a box with a sticker so i can send my laptop back and they'll fix it

i dont know if itll cost me money or not

i have a limited warranty (which I had to pay like 90$ extra to get)
and now i read the limited warranty fine print (since the internet wire got yanked on the port just doesn't work no more) and apparently it doesn't cover dammage that's your fault i.e: abuse.

BUT it does cover damage done throughout shipping, so why would they charge me an extra 90 dollars for coverage for damage done only over shipping?

anyways, i want to beat the system.

im gonna say ever since i bought the laptop ive been using wireless internet, and now i decided to get the real deal and it's not working, i've never used the ethernet port before damage must of been done during shipping!!

ha! think that'll work? anyone else have experience with sending shit back to dell?

and is there anything i should do to my computer before i send it off?
im not really afraid of anything, all i got is a bunch of downloaded movies and a few apps but no incriminating pictures or anything

sounds like a plan but to me wireless internet is so cool and convenient that IT'S the real deal

what's so bad about the dell tho if you broke it? my wife's laptop's been running like a dream for over a year

I would cut your losses and try to get refunded by Dell. I know it sounds crazy but when you get to call center India (the best is when they try not to sound like they are in India, LOL) ask to speak with their super. Explain what has happened, that you have been a customer for X years (get receipts) and are very dissatisfied with their product and demand a full refund or other form of compensation.

It might be a stretch, but being polite and asking nicely is always the first way to start. You would be surprised how willing people are to help if you say please and thank you.

as long as the limited warranty is still in play and your in the time limit you should be good

When I have my computer repaired I always get pissed knowing he's looked through my personal collection. It's not that I'm embarrassed and I understand that most of the pics I have aren't exclusive, but I've put a lot of time and effort into those folders.

I know I will again be ranked on by saying this, but obviously I do not care. If it were Apple they would overnight you a specialized box, you then send it back (overnighted to them), and is usually back in 3 to 4 business days and then is overnighted back.

My sister has sent her Dell laptops (her's, her kids) in 4 or 5 times (so far). It always takes weeks or more even. I won't mention what she had to do to convince the Indian dude it was broken each time and could not be fixed. She wasted hours on the phone with them.

DELL sux, time to move on. If you are a Windows only guy then get a Toshiba or HP.

I've been doing some reading about this online (I still can't get myself to send the laptop away, I really kinda need it) and a lot of people said Dell screwed them the warranty wouldn't cover the ethernet port and they want like 300-400$ to fix it!!!
