i think it's fucked up that the ratings people will allow the in-game enemies you kill to visually look realistic, die realistically and gory, but it's a total line-crosser to have them do things like beg for their lives or plea for you to stop because it's too disturbing.

I gotta be honest with you, it was annoying...not disturbing...now I know why killers kill the whiny pathetic ones, its just annoying...

yeah there were some basic, old school games where it was allowed rise of the triad for example. one of the points the author is trying to make is that they cannot humanize enemies effectively and intelligently to create an actual immerse game; to do so would cross some imaginary fucking line these randomly picked ratings people decided upon, and the ratings people ultimately decide where said games can be sold. once they slap an AO sticker on it, sales are limited to less retailers = less profit etc etc.

I agree, I played the hell out of metal gear solid 1&2, the enemies could have at least had random convo's or beg that you dont kill them...

something...anything ...to make it seem less like we were ninja turtles killing mindless robot foot clan soldiers 100's at a time...
