WoW or SC2?

So I've got to make the following decision.

I'm going to legitimetely buy (digital download, thank you Sir-Ex for pointing me in that direction) either Wolrd of Warcraft or Stacraft 2.

I'm an avid SC player, but haven't played WoW in a few years.

It kinda sucks too cause in WoW I had a lvl40 Undead Priest with a mount and now it's not there no more when I log into the site, so I'd have to start fresh, however it's only 20 bucks, but then I gotta pay every month and probably have to buy for each expansion pack and yeah start from scratch...

Now SC2 I'd love it, it's 65$ bucks though, but for every race you gotta buy a new game? That seems kinda lame.

And my laptop isn't exactly super great for games, I mean I pass the standard requirements it's just I don't exactly get to recommended requirements.

Anyways my specs on c\n you run it for WoW:
CPU
Minimum: Intel Pentium 4 1.3 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 1500+
You Have: AMD Athlon(tm) II P320 Dual-Core Processor
PASS

CPU Speed
Minimum: Intel Pentium 4 1.3 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 1500+
You Have: 2.09 GHz Performance Rated at: 2.508 GHz
PASS

RAM
Minimum: 512 MB or more of RAM (Vista requires 1 GB or more of RAM)
You Have: 3.7 GB
PASS

OS
Minimum: Windows® System XP/XP64/Vista/Vista64/7
You Have: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (build 7600), 64-bit
PASS

Video Card
Minimum: 3D graphics processor with Hardware Transform and Lighting with 32 MB VRAM, such as an ATI Radeon 7200 or NVIDIA GeForce2 class card or better
You Have: ATI display adapter (0x9712)
PASS
Features: Minimum attributes of your Video Card
Required You Have
Video RAM 32 MB 1.9 GB
3D Yes Yes
Hardware T&L Yes Yes

DirectX version
Minimum: 9.0c (included)
You Have: 10.0
PASS

Sound Card
Minimum: Yes
You Have: Conexant CX20671 SmartAudio HD
PASS

Free Disk Space
Minimum: 15.0 GB available HD space
You Have: 223.7 GB
PASS

CD-ROM
Minimum: 4x CD-ROM drive
You Have: GZO 0XEF0TMZKHQ SCSI CdRom Device
PASS

And what do you think I should go with? Try and start over with WoW or dive into SC2?

Right, the only problem with your laptop is that it's got a shitty video card. But you should still be able to get a smooth framerate if you turn shaders to low, turn off reflections, and have everything else at medium settings. It'll look a little dated, but it'll still be starcraft 2 running smooth in all its glory. Plus the music.

As far as the price point goes, they're almost identical. Say you played wow for a year, that's about $150 in subscription fees +$20 for the game +10 for expansions (?) - that's $180 for your one year of wow.
The remaining chapters of starcraft 2 are gonna take at least another year to be released, so it'll be about $190 spread over however long that takes (it'll probably be more like 2 years knowing blizzard).

So either way you're gonna spend the same amount of money. The question is which game do you want to play more?

Man I don't know...

see if I could get my old character from WoW back just because I got a mount I'd totally want that.

But SC2....damn man. I don't know!!

I think I'll play the trial for WoW for the next 10 days to get a feel for it.
And once I'm done downloading SC2 if I get it to work I'll play the single player missions and see if it's worth buying to go on bnet.

So lemme get this straight about SC2, it's only terran missions single players but on BNet you can be any of the 3 races?

That's right.

The single player is a totally different setup than the original, in a good way. Don't want to spoil anything.

WoW is great!!!

oh wait, it's not 2005 anymore? Go with Starcraft 2.

Besides the fact that WoW will pwn your life, its also already passed its peak. It will be around for many years to come, but with The Old Republic, DC Universe online, and a number of other promising (and more modern) MMOs coming to the market, I think WoW's days are numbered.

I was also in the SC2 beta, and it's a shitton of fun to play.

Having said all of that, this is an apples and oranges question. They are different genres of games..so much so that they are almost different entertainment forms....like seeing a movie or going to an aquarium.

My vote is SC2....but at the end of the day, you gotta decide if you want to invest hundreds of hours to WoW or not. Because you will if you play it.

as much as i love wow i have to agree with this. once you get to lvl 80 if you dont play the game like its your job you get left in the dust of the wownerdpack. i hope the newer MMOs are even more casual friendly because it would be nice to play in an mmo with a cool guild that didnt treat you like an employee at fucking best-buy with their raid schedules and prioritizing and bullshit.

i still love leveling up and PVPing in wow but i would never invest my time in the endgame

you gonna love sc2

allright well
im about to buy it right now
i really wanted to get back into WoW but like you said it's one of those things where your glued to a computer it's not like just losing a game in SC and counting a loss in your stats you can mess up a whole quest with a bunch of people and stuff

yeah the time investment is way different for both games

you can play a sc2 game in 15 minutes, whereas thats about how long it will take you to just travel somewhere in wow nevermind actually raiding/questing

did you ever get to the endgame? if not you have no idea how bad it gets. people who play wow are crazy.

yep the blizzard downloader is notoriously slow

took me like 4 hours to do mine and install it

you can go into preferences and turn of P2P downloading and see if that helps.

I don't know about SC2, but the thing about WoW, is there is always something to do. That's what I like about that game.

I have to agree with Waves though, about most raiding guilds being a bit too hard core about the end game stuff. I am lucky enough to play with real life friends and family.

When it starts to feel like work...I turn it off and do something else. I don't know many jobs though where I can sit at my own computer and smoke weed as long as I want too.

Look me up on 'The Forgotten Coast'.
Bannshee, kick ass bitch, lvl 80, Troll Shaman
Oh yeah...almost forgot...HORDE RULES!!!

I played wow for 4 years, had a 2 60 rogues and a 60 mage who was my main. I managed to hook up with a good raiding guild and we hit the endgame. Things were cool until the BC expansion. I ordered mine thru blizzard and by the time I got a copy from UPS, half my guild had burned to 70. I grinded my way there and started getting into the endgame stuff, but the guild had changed and they got really anal about raid schedules and shit like that. Around this time my first son was born, so I managed to work out a 3 night a week raid schedule with the wife, but that didn't last long, and yes it became way too much like work, and it all started to be about what gear you had, and how you were specced, and how many raids you attended. I ended up leaving the guild and for a while I just kind of farted around outlands with my twin brother (who had started playing a few months ealier) but after ahile it was like, login, run around doing random quests, logout. The ego kiddies totally turned me off of pvp, so that wasn;'t an option for me. I'd like to go back eventually but it has changed too much, I just miss flying around on my winged mount.

Currently I'm playing Star Trek online, it's pretty casual friendly, and now with a second kid I don't get much time to login so it works for me.

So in other words yeah, go with the SC2
