you're a spaceship pilot and you fly around the galaxy doing missions for money and upgrading your ship and you can mine asteroids and manufacture goods and trade stuff and fight pirates or become a pireate yourself and did i menttion its played on one big server w/ thousands of people playing at the same time in the same galaxy. im actually posting this posting this from the ingame browser and im about to shoot up some pirates so i gotta go. look it up on google or something

Someone here plays and has been for some time.

They'll go off about how it's this giant catbox and yadda, yadda, yadda.

It's looks great, but I avoided it because it looks like it could demand a lot of my time as I advanced further.

its not too bad, some of the player-made corporations are really friendly and they help out newbies with how to do everything, give em ships and weapons. also there's a lot of npc missions which are good for getting money, ships and parts early on, and they are pretty fun as well so its not all pvp. finally all the solar systems are rated based on safety, so you can stay in the safe systems until you are ready to venture out into the unregulated systems for some pvp action. if you get attacked in a safe system, really powerful npc ships will automatically pwn the attacker within seconds, there is no escaping them, so you only risk losing your ship if someone else is willing to lose theirs in a suicide attack, which usually doesn't happen unless someone is holding a grudge.

right now im just doing npc missions for cash while training up my skills, but i eventually i want to get an industry going, get my own space station, build some factories planetside, etc so i can get cash coming in 24/7 even when im not playing, and then use that money to buy destroyers and do some piracy in the unguarded sectors. also if i get enough ingame money coming in i can use that to pay for my subscription, rather than pay 20$ every month

training for skills in eve > grinding for hours to level up, like in WoW and other mmo rpgs

i play a couple hours starting around midnight toronto time, 3 or 4 times a week. i'll be really busy due to school for the next couple of weeks, but regular semester starts on the 13th so ill hopefully have more time to go on regularly. unless i get kicked out of university for bad grades, then ill be on 24/7 probably.
