Windows 7? Are you feeling it?
I have it on my Mac 2.66 GHz Core i7 MBP w/4Gbs of ram, so it's on a new machine. With that being out of the way, does anyone really like it? I'll admit it has only been a week, but Explorer has crashed about 8xs already and I've hardly used it. I really got it for two reasons: I wanted to be on the cutting edge and familiar with the latest and here to stay MS OS for future employment reasons. Also, so my son could play Fusionfall which only seems to work in Explorer as well as other games.Today my son got the old school blue screen of death while playing it (wtf?). And speaking of Explorer, does it still not have a spell checker or am I not seeing it? God, if not they are still really behind.
Anyway, in the past week my virus scan, which I've never had to purchase for my Mac and cost me $39.00 and needs to be renewed yearly (Spyware Doc) already picked up about 8 threats and 3 possibly "severe" infections which it fixed. I also find the file system lacking. Where is the registry and such? The finder is as lame as ever, very unintuitive (I find XP more intuitive, but maybe that's because I'm more used to it). Search still sucks ass in W7, I mean it is really bad. Although the core OS is relatively fast, it's like MS just attempted to dress up their pig. Also, my Windows 7 "Ultimate" does not provide basic office software like Word? What is that about! Yeah, I realize that people will just name call that I am a Mac fan boy, etc. But as I've said many times, I use XP at work. I actually find XP much more stable than W7. And since I've never had Windows installed on any of my home machines, it just seems like a royal pain in the ass to keep it stable. I guess I have become spoiled using Macs my whole life. But hey, at least I can game! All this crappyness occurred while booted directly into Windows, btw. However, I also have Parallels, which works well on top of OSX, very well actually. Much faster than I expected.

I fucking love Windows 7. I'm not ashamed to admit it, I really dig it. I skipped Vista and after learning about the changes they've made from XP to 7, I am totally at home in this OS.
There isn't a whole lot I can complain about in Windows 7. In fact, after a year of use, the OS hasn't crashed on me ONCE. Amazing! Unbelievable even for a microsoft OS, and yet, it's true.

yeah, dude, what silly ass porn are you watching on your machine to get it to fuck up like?
ive had windows explorer (not internet explorer cause i dont use that garbage) crash a few times while tweaking some "acquired" games, and thats it. i built the whole rig myself, booted up with 7 and everything has been peachy since. and i dont even use virus software, for one i have nothing to steal, and i believe im smart enough to avoid all that shit, which i have been for a few years now. never had a blue screen, this shit is smooth as ice. i never got how people got there computers into such shitty shape. the only times ive had actual issues was when i OC stuff or get really desperate for some very specific porn or something. as for accessibility, i think macs have just dumbed your ass down, cause accessing the registry isn't hard or difficult at all. i wonder how you would handle a linux system. and the amount of customization you can do with it, is rather awesome. it goes a bit deeper then just fonts and menus, you can really alter the GUI. i am not a fan. imo its vista, edition 2. not enough improvements for it to be considered a brand new os
but as far as windows os goes, its the best so far, but i prefer mac osx and even moreso Linux Ubuntu

Windows Ultimate isn't meant to get the MS Office products, it's really meant for IT developers who need to sandbox, encrypt, and/or remote access/VPN somewhere. For most people, Home Premium or Professional is all you really need.
If you don't want to pay for Microsoft Office, you can always download OpenOffice. XP atm the moment is the most stable, obviously because it's nearly a decade old and has gone through 3 service packs, whereas Windows 7 will have its first pack coming out early next year. Windows 7 automates a lot more than iOS/XP/Vista, namely driver searches and defragging, which helps extend the lives and speeds of devices/hard drives much better. Also, Internet Explorer 8 is known to be a terrible browser by everyone. Use Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc... until IE9 comes out which is supposed to be pretty good. What do you need to look at the registry for? I find searching and the library organization much better than XP or the Apple filing system, but that's just me. Like everything new, there's a bit of a learning curve. Once it's mastered however, W7 is the most versatile OS out there. That being said, obviously you're going to get more malware threats than Apple, so yes having a decent antivirus is critical, though the windows defender is a decent built in one. I've had a couple blue screens, but that's because I tweak my system a lot and currently running the release candidate for the first service pack for Windows 7. All the screens I've had I knew the what I did to cause it and correct it. Other than my own tinkering with the OS, i've not had any problems.
