Probably because most kids can't afford to go out and buy bluetooth headsets to enable voice chat on the PS3. If they're bothering you that much, just mute them, not exactly the end of the world.

Meh at paying for it, it's less than a penny a day. And the service is better.

TLDR: Xbox has more games, free to repair (£150 default price to fix the YLOD on the PS3 here....) and unless you're on welfare, a better online service. And without a doubt, PC's ftw. Xbox's and PS3's are both using pretty old tech at this point.

i meant 2 year lifespan as in if you get one it probably will last 2 years before you get a red ring.

do you think microsoft has something new in store any time soon? seems like the kinect was their big thing this year

lol @ at the need to offer free repair service because of a shotty initial product... [54% device failure rate as of 2010 is terrible]

YLOD [Yellow Light of Death] is way less common than the Red Ring, and that's usually after multitude years and years of dutiful use.

I'm still rocking my original fat PS3 with an upgraded hard drive.

Don't get me wrong, i could care less about paying for xbox live, but clearly ASG doesn't seem like she cares about needing to talk to and/or play with people online.

I've never used netflix so can't comment, I was under the impression you needed a netflix subscription to watch it either way? And no there's no browser on the xbox. To be honest the only time I've been bothered about using the browser was as something to do during the epic game installs, and it doesn't let you.

@Waves: Source?

Cuz that's that's definitely not true currently, at best it's down to 42% instead of 54% compared to PS3's <10%.

Ah, I don't really. However, this system is not only something I will use and enjoy, my husband and son will as well.

We've been discussing this topic at home for awhile now. I knew this would be a good place to come for opinions.

Thanks for everything so far...please keep at it.

I say PS3 for all the same above. Blu-Ray player is still one of the best. I'm not poor but I'm cheap so free online is nice. I got the move bundle with the 320 gig hard drive.
Good review here.

dood get the ps3, it's got a blu-ray player. that's HD entertainment for the whole family.

as for your husband and son playing games, i'd say neither really beats the other. MOST of the games are cross-platform so you can get them for either system - each have their own exclusives that rock that you wont be able to play if you choose just one - but really it won't make a lick of difference. There are great racing games, FPS, sports, etc etc for both.

However, Little big planet 2 is going to rock your socks off. That game has the ability to have 4 players on the same screen playing together - fun for the whole family! Yay! Your son will love you 4% more than he already does.

if you get him an xbox, I suspect he will love you about 3.5% more, but your husband will wonder why he's suddenly started saying, 'suck it faggot' so often.

And ps3 has blu-ray...

I'm not saying xbox is a bad system, but if you're looking for the most versatile machine, PS3 is it.
