Weeds: The series
I'm only up to season 3 of "Weeds" and while I started out liking this show, I have a few issues with it which have grown bigger as the show went on.
I get the point that it's a drama about a single mom who is trying to keep her and her kids' lifestyle the same as before her husband died but it irks me that they went that route. I get that she was a house wife with no marketable skills or education but to me it would have made more sense for her to at least try to get into college (online or going at night for an associates) and downsize their life until she could support the kids legally. Maybe selling on the side to make ends meat but not full time...it loses some of the 'suspension of disbelief' there. Another thing that irks me is the writers have her acting like a cat in heat. A guy scratches the hell out of her range rover with pennies then threatens her...so what does she do? She has sex with him in a back ally. Then she sleeps with a DEA agent she just met. Then she sleeps with a traveling 'christian salesman' in season 3. Then with her partner who helps her setup her grow-op. Didn't she just lose her husband of many years she loved deeply? It doesn't click for me. To me it would have made more sense to build up a relationship over 2-3 seasons then have her and her grow-op partner fall in love than this random sex thing she has going on. It just doesn't fit her character IMHO. The part that irks me most of all is how the show depicts the dispensaries and the Medical Cannibus Cup. Here is a show that could help the cause by showing patients that truly need and are helped by marijuana but instead the dispensary owner that we see in the show is depicted as high all the time, has a slightly-slimey-salesman look, and of all the patients he greats only one (the tiny granny) looks to be a legit medical patient. To me, it felt like it was showing the medical dispensaries were nothing more than what those blowhards in D.C. believe they are...places for healthy people to buy green under the guise of a fake medical condition. I may be wrong but none of the dispensaries I have been privileged to be in ever sold plants. (But I have only been to those in Denver...I have no idea what they are like in Cali) And the medical Cannibus Cup was shown as just a place to go find the best clones and smoke weed. I was a bit upset that this show which could be a good vehicle to entertain and INFORM is really just demonizing this wonderful plant. I'm going to check out season 4 to see if things improve but I'm getting to the point that the glitter of the show is wearing off really fast. And I did want to like this show

Oh I agree with you on the pot activism, I just thought since they were making a show on weed they could at least *try* to be halfways honest about it. I've only been to the Denver clinics (three to be exact) with a close and long-time friend (one time lover/girlfriend) who went to the clinics to medicate before her chemo treatments. I never saw any clones but they did have baked goods and treats available. She lost her battle two months ago. RIP Rachel. |

the first two seasons were great, i thought it was going to only get better but it got worse. once Conrad was written off the show i stopped watching. he brother in law Andy tho, he is fuckin hilarious! but yea i havent watched the past few seasons. i stop watching once Guillermo Díaz started appearing on the show, not that he's not a good actor, its just that the store lines got kinda well dumb.
