So played last night, and a lot of this morning.

I'm running around questing on my Rogue who at this point basically plays as 2 different roles. A Rogue Archer with a pet, or a Rogue Bladedancer with a pet, as you level up you add up to 4 classes within your archetype, so you can basically play very very different styles, classes within classes. Something I haven't seen before.

Anyways, I'm running around questin, which the quests are pretty entertaining btw, and these huge clouds are opening up with huge tentacles and monsters dropping out everywhere, all over the zone, you can see multiple ones off in the distance, then 1 right infront of you. Its up to the players to fight what comes out of these rifts, big storms of monsters come out in waves, and finally bosses. If you don't do anything about these rifts the monsters will take over the zone, spawning more and more friends with them.

At one point the entire zone was overran and I was in a group of like 50 people running from spot to spot wiping everything out for a few hours, some good boss battles as well, this all from level 10 to 16, so the game deff puts you in the action right away.

Quite a bit of fun.

WoW is still ruining my life, don't think I can pick it up just yet

Maybe when my lock hits 85 and I've done it all

I love a good RPG like anyone else but is there really anything original or new (besides graphically) that makes them worth playing anymore? Hack, slash, level, buy, repeat ad infinum.

Yeah I've been seeing ads for this recently too, and to be honest it just looks like a more graphically polished wow clone. Is there anything about this game that really sets it apart slash makes it worth buying?

Considering I described the game in opening posts I'd say its different. Worth buying, thast for you to research and decide.

I realized i dont want to play an mmo right now, but i enjoyed the few days of beta i played.

well any RPG game is going to have killing, slashing, leveling, buying, etc. those are core components of the genre. but your right that not much innovation has happened in that developers stick to the tried and true formula because anything outside of that would be taking a risk and big name companies are not going to take risks in this economy. most of the innovation is left to smaller companies and casual companies.

but there ARE great single player RPGs being made right now by Bioware (Mass Effect/Baldurs Gate/Dragon Age Etc), Bethesda (New Fallout Games, Oblivion), Blizzard (wow), the witcher series etc.

MMORPGs are all stale money grabbers so yea no innovation there. was hoping rift brought something to the table.
