I'm running IE9 and enjoying it
Got turned onto IE9 this morning while reading some random threads.
Apparently they fixed all their security issues, and made heaps of impovements overall. Used FF for years, then moved onto Chrome as soon as it came out and became good, now since this morning im really diggin IE. Its fast as fuck, maybe faster than chrome. Everything I read about it though sounded great, to lazy to do any research and post stuff. Just a heads up.

IE9 is supposedly faster than Chrome 9, but not Chrome 10.
Just DL'd both, and my benchmarks show Chrome 10 faster as well. Both offer hardware acceleration which is nice, but chrome apps can run while chrome is not open, which is nice for me at least. I'm sticking with Chrome but IE9 isn't a bad backup.

my chrome was crashing almost daily believe it or not, as well as 1 tab was randomly freezing quite a bit while multi tabbing which is like, always.
but yea, I dunno, enjoying the change.

Call me old fashion but does anyone offer a stripped down browser that isn't filled with a bunch of complex shit designed to make my online experience simpler and more enjoyable?

Don't care how fast it is. If you're using IE, you're getting a stripped down version of the web, period. Chrome is the best rendering engine (Webkit) and overall browser. Firefox4 will dominate. IE barely caught onto rounded corners.
IE9 is barely catching up to what every other browser has been doing for years and it will get left behind (yet again) in about another year.

Meh, I don't see FF4 taking a huge chunk anymore, it's basically in the same position as IE.
You may not care how fast content is delivered to you, but most people do which is why it's such a big emphasis for browsing.

View some of these demos in Chrome (and FF4 soon) and then in IE...speaks for itself: CSS3-Man isocube - CSS "3d" isometric cube CSS3 Matrix Animation jQuery DJ Hero - CSS3 and jQuery fun Sliding Vinyl with CSS3 - ZURB Playground - ZURB.com No Flash needed. This is the future of the web (HTML5/CSS3), most especially on mobile platforms. IE can barely get rounded corners, nevertheless all the advanced rendering techniques developers will implement, ignoring the fact that IE can't keep up. Yes, most people don't care...yet. In the end, people love bells & whistles and will migrate to platforms that support them. The above examples are simply an example that most sites you will visit in IE will look 'aight' but you'll miss all the technology that is swimming around it. And honestly, why the hell would you surf the internet (the most fast moving and leading-edge technology we've seen given to the masses) using nothing but the latest and greatest is beyond me. Its like having your own highspeed raceway and using a bicycle to race around it. Quote:

Although I will add that IE9 is a blessing, to finally get people to move away from IE6 and IE7. Beyond that though, rubbish.

You're thinking as a dev, I'm thinking as a corporate IT employee where many company/industry specific apps don't need fancy animations, they need data/content. Most business apps are built around IE, there's more than just home/end users that microsoft caters to.
I don't happen to think Mozilla can keep up with Google. After all, Chrome is now in version 10 compared to FF4. Chrome, as i've seen, has never hiccupped in the latest and greatest advances and is often leading them. Nowadays people weaning off IE are more likely to go to Chrome than Firefox, especially on business machines that don't have the best specs/processing compared to home PCs.

Au contraire, most industry mags i read have shown that those stuck in IE6 whether it be for security or legal reasons are jumping ahead to IE9 much like how most businesses skipped vista and went from XP to 7. Those running IE6 are more concerned with data transfer and security than rendering anyway, which is what IE9 is touting.
Even for the average home user, data transfer and security are probably going to register a little higher on the USE ME meter than fancy graphics/scripts. That being said I am a promoter of any good software, albeit MS, Apple, Google, or Mozilla and I'll recommend different things to different people based on their needs. For minimal computing resources though, still can't beat Chrome.

Agreed on all counts, but that's what baffles me. IE9 was only a few minor steps away from being fantastically standards compliant, in both consumer and apparently business/IT arenas. Why they cut out at the last minute is beyond me, especially when Chrome and Firefox are out there.
Then again, just like Vista -> Windows 7, I'm sure IE X is going to blow us all away.. sigh

It's pretty much ridiculous to say nowadays that one browser is faster then the other, it might have been the case in ancient dial-up times, but now when everyone has a pretty fast connection, shit like that becomes obsolete.
A decent download speed is all you need to load webpages fast, browser response or multiple requests and stuff don't matter anymore. I'll stick with Chrome because I don't think the difference or the improvements are worth going through the hassle of changing my primary browser anymore. It's all same shit. |

true that but I've got shit webs, and only 1 option. I don't know what it was with Chrome but as I said, shit was fucking up for me quite a bit, when 10s out, I'll switch back and see how its acting.
