New receiver, over my head
So i just got a sherwood rd-7502 home theater receiver. it has an hdmi output, and my tv has an hmi input (its a 720p tv). when i connect them though nothing happens. i have a wii hooked up to the anologue inputs on the receiver. the sounds is coming through my speakers but the tv registers nothing. also i can't get audio from my computer to the receiver via hdmi (works with coax cable), but that could just be my computer.
i cant figure out how to get it to work, despite reading the manual and using my google-fu off chance anyone own one of these? anyone know a forum/support website that doesnt mind answering such noob questions? edit: i can get it to work by plugging the red and white output from the wii into the receiver, and the yellow one into the tv, but i still need to figure out this hdmi output thing or i wont be able to hook up other things to it and have it work.

Roach's suggestions was my only one besides the more obvious things like a) try a different cable and b) bad hdmi output port since you know the input on the TV works...
Otherwise, perhaps a setting on the receiver to switch output signals?

I might be wrong but for some reason I think you're expecting the receiver to convert an analog TV input source signal into HDMI and transfer it to your TV?
I don't think that can work with that receiver but why don't you just connect your wii straight to your TV via HDMI? Also to get sound through HDMI from your laptop you most probably need to change the output settings of your sound card. |

yea i think your right. i'll have to connect the receiver to the tv with analogue cables for analogue sources to work, and also with hdmi for the digital/hd sources to work.
or i can just run the wii (only analogue thing i own) to the tv, and send the audio from the tv to the receiver with an spdf cable. i'll need to do that to watch cable anyway (no box, tv has built in tuner). i guess whatever method input you use you have to use the same method of output. for some reason i though it just decoded everything and kicked it out via one source

You can just run the video out from your wii straight to the tv and feed the audio L/R from the wii to the receiver. Might have to split the cable tho

yep, thats what i've been doing. gonna set it up more legit though for hooking up other components. cables are so cheap nowadays its not that bad just running an extra cord or two.
