Slap some quick tech on the old dude... Apple fanboize please help.
Maybe I should ask for Apple haters instead.
Kid got me a used iPod for my birthday, awesome of the lad, he bartered a few things he had for something he wanted and that alone was a great present to dear old dad. Anyhow, he set it up for me and loaded a couple of pictures on it so it'd look real cool when I opened it up, which it does. However it seems to be linked to his account and I can't seem to do anything with it, even if I use his account password, if I want Angry Birds on this thing it seems it's gonna take some doing. So I figure, simple enough, just set me up an iTunes account and reformat this thing since there aint nothing on it. I'm late to the party and I know the only way to sign up for the Flavor-Aide is to give them my CC info which I'd really rather not do so I can't really bitch about that. I'm one of those people who only give that shit up to select, important folk who need it to transact actual business, not Steve Jobs who wants my info so I can play with his legally obtained and owned toy. So on to the important shit. I like Winamp but the iPod isn't recognized by my Winamp when I plug in, is this because iTunes has turned it into a waiting iZombie, only able to be brought back by Apple? The big reason for the iPod is so I can have my really weird taste in music in my car with me, most of the rest of the shit I really find neat but yeah, who cares. BUT. If anyone knows how to let me gain access to some of the toys without laying bare my soul to the internet, that would be sweet. So, your mission, if you choose to accept it: Point the old dude in the direction of how to take control of yet another hand held time sucker! This message will hit the bong in... 5. 4. 3. 2. 1.

Totally off topic-but, your son is great kid, and I bet that time stopped for a few moments when you realized what your son did for you.
That's a story to tell at his wedding.

Yes, ipods and other apple products only work with itunes. The reason they want your CC info so if you so choose to buy songs/apps you can do it on the fly.
And yes, the only way to give it your own account it to wipe it back to factory settings, which will also mean wiping all the pics/music your good son put the effort into. He can load it on afterwards for you, though. As someone who gave away Ipad 2's for wedding gifts, Apple is a staunch believer in only buying things for yourself.

Yeah, I'm actually pretty impressed but keep in mind he is 19. I've never been one for throwing money at things, if you can find a way to get what you want by making someone else happy with what you have and really don't need, that's how to do it. I have a lot of friends whose kids never saw it that way, the route to happiness was through mom and dads last nerve, dig it? My oldest built his first computer out of the trash, literally out of the trash, because he wanted one and when he wanted net access and I couldn't pony up the money for the bandwidth he was after (non-dial up) he went and found someone with the shit he needed and bartered his way into being able to use an unsecured network close to home. I carry no revolving debt, no car payments, I rent and have for 20 years but I managed to find a place I'm happy in that is very cheap for the neighborhood I'm in, because I do what needs to be done around here for the owner and he knows this and we take care of each other, the way it should work. I do things for friends and they do things for me, none of us has paid for anything any of us know how to do for a long time and again, that's how it's supposed to work. I'm glad the boys have found this important in life. BTW, my youngest told me to go drop five bucks on a green dot card and fuck Apple.

^ That's a good idea from your youngest.
You're raising 'em right, Oneder.
