Hey guys im looking for a free music editing type of software.
Something where you can open a mp3 or wav file and record into it, possibly loop it, add effects/vocals, etc etc.

Even something simple would suffice if it was free. Or possibly a combo of a few different free programs maybe?

And yeah i know i can get programs like fruityloops for free through torrents or whathaveyou (i have it)
BUT i am looking for a legit free piece of software IF POSSIBLE


if nothing like this exists then maybe you guys know of some type of software like this where the owners might be willing to sell or collaborate with me so i could be able to share this software for free myself.

well. Audacity is a free program, but its pretty much barebones waveform editing. it doesnt have any sequencing or synths or anything like that. i use it strictly for chopping out parts of audio that i want to sample, and also for changing pitch and tempo on samples. it does a pretty good job doing time stretches without adjusting the original pitch.

it does:
-recording through an input, echo, reverb, compression, eq, filtering, normalization, phase inversion, edit: looping

doesnt:
-sequencing, synthesizing

i second, or third audacity. awesome freeware. i also second cool edit pro 2, but it's not free and i have a cracked version on my laptop which im able to run the software on. if youre computer is completely up to date in it's updates, windows has addressed the crack, and the software wont run.

there's also ardour. copletely free, and looks excellent, but only avail for osx and linux.

reaper costs $60 for the lowest liscence but it's the full software (unlike the cheapest version of fl studio). seems very similar to fl studio.

and this is vst planet's audio tools section which has several multi-track daws, sequencers, audio plugins. most are free, some are trial based or donation ware.

hahaha, that version is literally carbon copy of cool edit pro 2, only it looks a lot slicker. great software, even if bought. a little learning curve, but once you get it, it's very well laid out and intuitive imho. basic but solid. and the vst plugins it comes with (at least cep2) are very nice.
