Freshly installed Win 7 acting like a right cunt
A friend of my dad's tried to "fix" my computer about a year and a half ago. He ended up formatting my hard drive and installing Windows and Ubuntu on a dual boot.
Didn't care for Ubuntu and the partition that Windows was installed on kept getting more and more full with updates until I couldn't use the computer. Moved everything onto an external, formatted again so it was one completely empty partition(or, not partitioned at all, not sure the verbiage for that) and reinstalled Windows 7. 3 days after I got it fixed it starts freezing for no reason. The most I ever do on my PC is browse the internet on Chrome with iTunes and/or uTorrent running in the background. I've tried installing and playing games, that my computer should run exceptionally based on the specs. But they freeze every 20 seconds so I just gave up. This shouldn't be happening. It can't be a virus, it's basically back to factory default. Am I just fucked and need to buy a new computer?

Try fixing your registry, can use something simple like CCleaner or more robust like Auslogics Registry Cleaner.

have you opened up your computer and made sure everything seems to be running correctly? Heatsink and fan, main case fans and what not?

@Komp: Used Little Registry Cleaner, seems to have cleared everything up. There were about two pages worth of errors found.
I don't know what the fuck that is though, so what's a registry and why did it cause problems? @Mayne: Yeah all the hardware components were/are working fine. Good call though, didn't think to check that earlier. Edit: It's still acting a little wonky, but nowhere near as bad as it was.

The Registry is the core of windows and how applications run on this OS, it's pretty crucial. Seems like it didn't get installed properly, but it's not hard to fix. Keep running the cleaner a few times in between a few restarts so things file and store properly.
Also, you can turn off programs that you don't need starting until you want them to start. If you're unfamiliar with msconfig and selective startup i can do a quick walkthrough on that later.

Ah good to know, thank you for your help.
The only program that autostarts is uTorrent and that's negligible processor use. One thing I've always been good about is keeping my PC from overloading right at the start.
