Boardwalk Empire
I have only just discovered this series, as I am not really a tv person and always behind the times when it comes to good shows.
But I still can't believe I missed its existence up until now, as it ticks so many boxes for my viewing pleasure it's almost perfect! HBO drama production values/quality of Direction/writing/plot etc Prohibition era gangsters/realistic period reproduction/relative faithfulness to real life characters. Martin Scorsese Steve Buscemi Omar from The Wire Loads of other great actors/actresses Loads of hot women etc... I've just started watching it online now, up to about episode 5 in season 1, really liking it so far... The only thing I could criticise is the opening sequence music, which is hardly very 1920's Anyone else watch it? Last edited by B.; 10-15-2011 at 04:35 PM. |

Its excellent and they seemed to have stepped it up a gear in the second season. Its the best thing on telly at the minute by a mile.

I've been there since the beginning. I don't know how historically accurate it is...like was AC really by this Nucky guy. To me the most compelling character is the horribly conflicted Prohibition Man. So uncorruptable, yet speeding down that slippery slope of immorality. But somehow redeeming himself. Ordering champagne for he and his wife on their anniversary, then busting the speak. Getting all hardassed with his pregnant flapper, then buying her a Victrola at the end. He's strung so tightly, even he knows he's about to lose it.
I usually skip the intro, but didn't the other night I didn't. I thought the same thing about the music. It's Scorsese. He has to have rock music in all his projects. I surprised he didn't use Sympathy for the Devil. |

Nice, am glad season 2 is good aswell, definitely the best thing I've seen in a while!
Just finished watching episode 6, which finished with the prohibition agent guy whipping himself with his belt, crazy man! Apparenty Nucky Johnson was a real life Atlantic City big wig, though I'd never heard of him before this, but all the Chicago outfit guys are there like Big Jim Colosimo, Johnny "The Fox" Torrio and Al Capone, plus Lucky Luciano and Arnold Rothstein etc from NY Enoch L. Johnson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I had recently been reading about all these characters before I found this series, so it is all pretty fresh in my memory... Anyway, off to do Episode 7 now

how could you people not have been watching this show already? Better than Breaking Bad. It feels like 20 part Coen bro's movie.. it's awesome.
