I wish I had tried Galaxies. More than that I wish I had got into UO. I feel like I missed out on something special there.

It was only special for about a year.

For some reason it just didnt draw the big numbers. It had the most innovative gameplay in any MMO since everquest, but people just didnt play it.

So they ended up introducing this patch that "wowcloned" the entire game. It went from an innovative awesome game to some shitty wow rip off overnight.

Thats when it died

But for about one year it was glorious.

WHY OH WHY have MMOs devolved into linear, on-the-rails RPGs with no social interaction whatsoever?

I shouldnt have LESS things to do in a star wars MMO that came out like a decade after the first one.

Makes me sad man

Some more titan news, thought it was interesting:

A job posting for the role of franchise development producer on Blizzard's next MMO indicates that the developer is considering product placement and possibly in-game advertising for the game, codenamed Titan.

As well as various branding and merchandising responsibilities, the producer is to "work with major consumer brands to facilitate product placement and licensing within the world of Blizzard Entertainment's next-gen MMO that enhances the gameplay experience."

This is the first indication, and a strong one, that Titan is not a fantasy game, but is set in the present day or the future - potentially a near future.

Blizzard is notoriously protective of the integrity of its fictions and would be unlikely to consider the move if it wasn't harmonious with the game's setting - as suggested by the requirement that the licensing "enhances the gameplay experience".

Back in 2005, a Blizzard April Fool satirised the deal between Sony Online Entertainment and Pizza Hut that allowed players to order pizza from within EverQuest 2.

Blizzard has previously stated that Titan is a brand new franchise with new art, design and lore, and not related to its fantastical StarCraft, Warcraft or Diablo universes; president Mike Morhaime called it "something that's completely new and fresh". No other indication of the game's genre, platforms, gameplay or release date has been given.

Blizzard investigating product placement in next MMO • News • Eurogamer.net

Not sure how hot i am for the idea of running around a blizzard game seeing "Nike" ads.

lol how am I ever going to find the time to play D3 with TOR in the picture!?

I took the evening off last night to just wind down and relax - lol I think I played TOR for like 6 hours. Such a fun game and I'm STILL only level 19. I must play slow or something because people I add to my friends list are at the same level as me, and next week they're 10 levels ahead.

At this rate I'm not going to be done with my 1st character by the time D3 comes out.

i played for about 3 hours- started a new toon. sith warrior. got up to lvl9.

really enjoying the sith questline. feels lot more 'star wars'ey then the bounty hunter one did.

if you or anyone else feel like starting a new toon on a pvp server i will reroll a char and we can quest together like fags. (Server- Prophecy of Five) Im up for starting Republic chars too.

the fact that you would play TOR over D3 is heresy (imo)

It's been the same thing with every Diablo actually. I've always waited like 2 years since they've come out to actually start playing. I remember when the original came out, I was busy playing Ultima 8. When 2 came out, I was busy with the Baldur's Gate series.

And now I guess this time around it's going to be TOR and Skyrim as the contending RPGs that keep Diablo at bay until I'm good and ready to face him.

I'd be down for that once I finish the Jedi Knight story. I'm level 22 now so it might be a little while, but I wanna beat it through once on my own first so I can pay attention to the story.

If you really want to fag it up, I'd do a role-playing PVP server and pretend to be bounty hunter partners

What a strange and disturbing engine these Bioware guys have come up with.

I've been putting up with 20fps averages in the open world (30fps in dungeons) and tolerated that because I figured that was the best my PC could do with the graphics turned down (except textures and character detail, because you can't compromise on those) in game, and on the GFX card settings.

But for some reason turning UP Anistropic filtering and Antialiasing to MAX and turning VSYNC ON has increased my FPS by an average of around 10FPS in the open world and like 30FPS in the dungeons. Bioware are sick, sick people I tell you.

ps: I've been researching the history of MMORPGs and Asheron's Call sounds like it was one hell of a game.

I think after I'm done with this I'm going to find a more classic styled, completely open world MMORPG to play with. Cuz that shit is WAY more 'Ultima'te.

Asherons call was good but EQ was the true godfather of MMOs

it could be disputed that UO was the godfather but EQ brought it into true immersion- the 3d engine. the feeling of logging onto EQ as a 13 year old was something i still havent even come close to these days.

Actually you can find a really cheap copy of Everquest and play it for free on Project1999s servers.

Project 1999 - Classic Everquest

My brother was playing on this server for awhile, it seemed like a fun time. Plenty of people online all the time and they are all cool and helpful.

If you want a true open world MMO you gotta go back to the old school days.

Another good one was Dark Ages of Camelot. That was the closest ive come to recapturing that everquest "the world is yours" feeling. It had 3 different factions all based off different mythology (norse, camelot, celtic) and the game felt like a real world that you entered. The pvp was awesome too, you had to invade another factions home city and take their relic which, when you had them, gave your entire realm bonuses like XP bonuses and stuff.

God i miss real MMOs. Again what the fuck happened to this genre? so sad.

Was derping on the net tonight and figured I'd visit Yahooka again.

I got TOR at Christmas but haven't had a chance to play it yet, is it pretty good? Worth installing?

I got an orange light saber, which is super cool looking and I'm only a half a level away from getting my speeder and it is glorious.

It says I've played the game for like 2 days and 5 hours.

That's 53 hours. 53 hours of my life since Jan 7th (ish). Almost 10% of my time. TEN PERCENT. When you factor in sleeping time, FOURTEEN PERCENT of my waking life has been spent playing TOR since I installed it.

If you want to be a super awesome nerd like me, then yes, do install it. Otherwise, stay away.

If you enjoyed WoW, you will most certainly enjoy this game.

In fact if you enjoy MMOs in general this is probably one of the better ones that ive played (of the next-gen MMOs of course, its not EQ)

If you grew sick and tired of wow, its like a 50/50 chance that you will like this game.

If you enjoy leveling your character more than you enjoy reaching endgame, you will probably enjoy this game.

If you enjoy the Star Wars universe and the lore and the setting and all that nerdy shit like myself, you will probably enjoy this game.

For real though we all have to decide on a server and roll alts together. Its a shame that we are all basically playing this like a single player game.

I got a toon to 50 already and i dont like the endgame in its current state, so im willing to start on another server, preferably republic side.

Just say the word!

Ive got 5 days on my bounty hunter since the last 35 days of me having the game!

sign me up for the super awesome nerd club!

And i cant wait to start playing other classes!

Id say i got my moneys worth so far.

(60$+15/month) = 75d/35 = 2 dollars a day!

considering that going to see a movie these days is like a 30-40 dollar investment, i think thats pretty fucking value-licious for 120 hours of entertainment.
