Shouldn't be long before it is a standard rather than a premium.

as somebody who's dropped a phone in the toilet more than once that coating sounds like a life saver

I wonder about ventilation issues/heat disposition. If it is sealed where does the heat go?

Think of it more as a coating than a seal, it's so thin it shouldn't cause heat dissipation issues. Hydropobics ftw, I use a coating of similar stuff on my car windows which is so effective it negates the need for wipers during rain.

Hmmm, why are there ice cubes in that 30 minute video I posted of the iPhone?

Possible heat issues?

Regardless, put that on my clothes, my car, my house. Repel shit.

it seems like most heat coming off an iphone would just be radiating from the body of the phone, not really exchanging through the air. do they have vents on them?

Link? I'm seeing neither a 30 minute video, nor ice cubes in the link you posted?

Most phones do have vents and also gaps around the buttons.

I've accidentally dropped phones in water. Usually the phone itself is fine if you dry it out but the battery usually gets shorted out and thus knackered.

It's actually in the body of the article that is linked to.

I dropped a pager in my fishpond and my iPod Touch (1st gen) went through the wash/drier. After drying out a few day, both worked fine. No moving parts helps in such scenarios.

on that note, if you drop your phone in some water make sure its off and then chuck it in a bag of desiccant. some of us have drierite lying around for various purposes but if not rice actually works pretty well

If its anything like Rain X, you don't want it anywhere near your skin, believe me.
