laptop issues

so i got a Toshiba L675, about three years old. Been having issues with the screen not turning on when powering up. It shows on HDMI when im hooked up to the tv and then later on it will sometimes turn on after being displayed on the tv for a while. Then sometimes it will turn off again...

Is this a Polyimide wire problem that transmits the display within the hinges of the laptop that is intermittently working?

I had this issue a few times before, but would simply close the lid one or two times and it would come back.. Just recently it pretty much stopped working. I was thinking it could be a logic board, GPU problem, but since it displays on a TV i think not. Would it be worth it to have the hinge wiring replaced to the display?

I hate taking a computer in for repairs/overlook only to find out i'd be better off getting a new computer for what they charge.

thanks for any input, guys and gals

sounds like a shitty HDMI port to me...like its buggin out and tricking the comp into thinking you have an external display plugged in and therefore the screen goes blank

Have you tried re-installing your video drivers?

That's not weird it's freakin Toshiba they suck at providing new drivers for their customized GPUs. I'm guessing you have an ATI card??

If that's the case I'd advise using ATIs automatic detection driver update service, off ATIs website. If you have a switchable graphics setup it probably wont do you any good, but if it isn't there's a good chance you'll be able to update.

says it's already updated. i guess ill wait and see what my neighbor has to say after he takes his laptop in to the service center. ironically, a day prior to this happening, he got the same problem and asked me what his issue was, told him not sure, and now i got the same shit

If it is a hardware issue shouldn't be more than soldering a wire or two. I wouldn't take it to a shop if you can narrow it down that far

I've had this same problem, and reinstalling the drivers fixed it. I think sometimes they just go wonky and fuck up the settings, and needs a clean slate.

That being said homie just had this happen, it was a Toshiba and the casing around the screen was kinda cracked, so it pinched a wire in there. It had a warranty, so he sent it in, but it would have been easy to do on his own.

Also, if it is a driver issue, it should work fine before any OS with drivers is loaded. Do you see your toshiba splash at startup without problems rubix?

Yup. Everything is running as normal right now. the screen stopped working for a day basically and has intermittently happened before.
