I thought the premise was super cool being a cop show in detroit and all and couldn't make it through episode four.

I gave up on it around 4 as well.
I'm going to give it another shot eventually though; it had to follow Breaking Bad and anything would look like shit after that.

Initial thoughts though:
It's a bit confusing/convoluted.
Everything was always SO INTENSE with no downtime. Anxiety/tension only works in short bursts otherwise it just becomes stressful and not enjoyable.
It felt like it took itself too seriously. No moments of levity. Even BrBa had humor sprinkled in, even in the darkest moments.
I simply stopped caring after a while.

The pros:
Great cast and a great premise. Seriously a phenomenal bunch of actors and if they get their shit together the potential for fantastic TV is there.
The mood/setting is done right.
Some genuinely tense and well executed moments including the (spoiler) House fire scene (/spoiler).

I slogged through 4 episodes, then read that it doesn't get any better and gave up.

It was a chore to watch.

You should check out The Bridge mayne, I think you will like it quite a bit.

Oh yeah and Ray Donovan was pretty solid as well. Right up your alley.

I thought it was called Low Winter Sun?

Anyways I tried to get into it but the dialogue is grade-A shit. It sounds like idiot hipsters trying their hardest to ape Raymond Chandler and James Ellroy and failing miserably imo.

Plus for the love of God to we really need another "edgy" cop drama?

Well this answers the question of whether we should continue to care about this one.

Quote:
AMC canceled drama series Low Winter Sun after a single season, marking a rare freshman season axing at the network. Based on a British miniseries, the Detroit-set crime drama starred Mark Strong as a homicide detective.
The show premiered in August to a relatively modest 2.5 million viewers despite a strong Breaking Bad lead-in, then fizzled during the course of its run. Low Winter Sun joins 2010′s Rubicon as the network’s only hour-long original drama to get canceled after a single season. Though fellow dank crime show The Killing was rather spectacularly and repetitively revived post-cancellation, it seems very unlikely that low-buzz Winter will receive the same reconsideration.
Meanwhile, AMC has at least five dramas on tap for 2014: In addition to the return of Mad Men, The Walking Dead and Hell on Wheels, the network will introduce Revolutionary War drama Turn, 1980s computer biz drama Halt and Catch Fire and possibly the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul.
