movie suggestions

hey guys, I am in need of some movie suggestions. not feeling too great, effects of last night, and I think I will be couch bound tonight. I really dig realistic movies, not necessarily true stories, but something that could actually happen. doesn't have to be new or anything, just some ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

cheers,
b

When you say things that could actually happen, do you mean actually plausible or not physically impossible?

It might be important.

I watched eyes wide shut last the other night. It was pretty good.

As long as you don't tell me your name, that is an appropriate amount of information.

more along the lines of plausible, but the other isn't a bad idea either. Eyes Wide Shut is a great flick!

check out some of matthew mccaguneheys latest flicks. i butchered the fuck out of his last name but you know who im talking about. the all right all right all right guy who just won the oscar. also check out true detective. he does good movies that might be realistic but straddle the edge of reality.

-Wolf of Wall Street
-Dallas Buyers Club
-Mud
-Killer Joe (i especially liked this one, its really fucked up though)
-Bernie (with jack black playing a psycho dude)
-Hell il even go ahead and recommend Lincoln Lawyer if you like courtroom movies.

We're living in the age of mcchaugney. enjoy that shit. (butchered his name again didnt i)

yup. for dallas buyers club.

i dont know how he went from being generic rom-com guy to oscar winner. he has the acting chops though, maybe he was doing those romcoms for the paycheck and decided to get serious about his art.

in his speech he said his hero was himself in 10 years. no joke.

also you can tell how dumb you can be and still be a great actor by watching the oscars

i mean cmon this guy is not the most sharpest tool in the box. not the most sharpest by far.

but he can play pretend really really well. and for that he deserves to be raised above the rest of society and worshiped as a god.

How is striving to be your best self, stupid?

Honestly idealising other people is stupid, why not strive to be a better you instead of attempting to be almost as good as someone else?

its more narcissistic than stupid. its something that you could picture anyone in hollywood saying. of course his hero is himself. who else would it be.

usually when people ask you who your hero is you give them what they are asking for, someone you look up to as a role model. to say its yourself is fucking silly in my humble opinion. not that its bad to believe in yourself and respect yourself, but its just fucking silly. dont say you are your own hero. thats not the fucking question matthew.

thats like saying you are the best person in the world. its just weird man. even if you were genuinely the best person in the world thats a fucked up thing to say.

the stupid part was the entire rest of his speech where you can tell hes reached the absolute limits of his intellect in the mere act of giving an acceptance speech at a silly awards ceremony.

i dont mean to bash the guy completely, obviously if im recommending his work i respect and admire him. i just can see hes no rocket scientist. and thats fine because acting does not require one to be a rocket scientist. hes playing to his strengths as an individual.

It seemed pretty well conceived and a lot better than a lot of those "omg i won i won thank you .......endless parade of names".

But keep on judging the intelligence of people that you have never interacted with. From what I have gathered the guy is pretty intelligent and takes his craft very seriously.

taking your craft seriously does not equal intelligence. james franco takes his craft seriously. have you read his poetry. have you seen when he tries to make a serious point. and comparing his speech to the speech of other equally narcissistic people does not really make any kind of point. tom cruise takes his craft seriously. hes fucking looney and dumb as a rock. there is a long tradition of dumb as a rock actors who are still great actors, this is not me making some random anecdotal comment here.

i think i will go ahead continuing to judge his intelligence because in the grand scheme of things it means nothing and is an off the cuff remark that will be lost into the ocean of infinity forever once people stop looking at this post. and me judging his intelligence has nothing to do with me judging him as a human being. i think hes probably a really cool guy who does take his craft seriously. good for him. doesnt make him intelligent.

If they excel at their chosen profession does that not justify an applied aptitude, ie intelligence.

Peyton Manning doesn't give dissertations yet he is considered intelligent on the football field. Lebron isn't preaching string theory yet he is a genius on the court.

Intelligence comes in many forms and to discredit a person and call them dumb when they obviously excel in their profession is pretty ignorant.
