Built my first PC today

Wasn't mine, but I got a new gig specializing in PC, laptop, mac, iphone and console repair, as well as doing custom builds, selling parts, accessories yada yada ya.

A lot easier than I expected. Everything went right but I had to redo my wire management because it was pretty shitty the first go around.

PC came on fine first time and everything :)

hell ya aidan, its like legos for adults.

im just a cheapass so the amazement in building a computer that a store would sell with preloaded bs software and sub par components for 1k-1500 that i build for 500 is awesome to me, and ive read all teh reviews and picked the best bang for my buck parts is what appeals to me.

Nice.

I built my current PC in 2011. When I inserted the CPU and pulled the lever down and heard that crunching sound... my heart stopped beating for a couple seconds...

I actually just ordered some RAM and a CPU cooler for my PC, planning on modernizing it. The CPU is actually pretty solid... i5-2500K sandy bridge, going to OC when the cooler gets here.

Just need to find a graphics card now, I was thinking r9 290X, but I'll probably have to upgrade my power supply which is why I havn't ordered one yet. The weird thing about my power supply is that it has enough wattage for most high end cards (650W), but it has multiple independent 12V rails with a maxmimum of only 22-25 amps each, which isn't enough for newer cards.

whats your current card?

ionlylooklazy 06-23-2014 08:54 PM

radeon 6850

Someone in my craigslist is selling a 280x and 1000w CPU for 250 combined.

Not nearly the juice as a 290x, but much cheaper and should keep my PC in service for another couple of years when I'll just build a new one.

F U radeon fan.

nvdia > ati ALL DAY

:p

if you have an intel chip, go nvidia.

if you have an AMD chip, go radeon.

Sir-Ex 06-24-2014 01:17 PM

I've owned both and I've always found nVidia to be so much better.

ionlylooklazy 06-24-2014 02:03 PM

Amd has better price for performance, the 290x has better benchmarks on games (according to anandtech) than the 780 and is priced similarly

Nvidia has better top level performance with 780ti, but that's ridiculously expensive.

Amd also has mantle which supported by starcitizen, which is the game I am upgrading for

Kompressor 06-24-2014 02:06 PM

star citizen looks bad ass.

waiting for/kickstarted it myself.

I've got a freelancer MIS LTI

while i have never built a pc by myself i have many times replaced/fixed parts on my laptops. i am no longer afraid that i won't be able to put it back together

Lazy: Go with the 750Ti Superclocked.

Got mine for around 180 a few months ago and it's a low power consumption card.

Runs most of my games on high settings with at least 60fps.

Already bought a used 1000w power supply and a r9 280x for 250 combined.

doing a build tomorrow in one of those small mini cases

should be interesting

Sir-Ex 06-26-2014 01:13 PM

Wow Star Citizes does look good..

ionlylooklazy 06-27-2014 06:34 PM

got my cpu cooler and ram in today so i finished setting up my pc, now it runs cooler, quieter, and much faster.

not bad for a $350 dollar upgrade (gpu, power supply, ram, cpu cooler, and an additional case fan i had laying around)

Snowmayne 06-28-2014 02:54 AM

did a build in one of these today
