Oz

Man started this one in the past week and its fucking killer. I like it way better than The Wire. I know its kinda old but anyone else have any thoughts or appreciation for this series? It kinda layed the entire groundwork for the rest of HBOs format, the heavily serialized high budget shows that came later like Sopranos and even Thrones have this show to thank for existing.

Lots of actors that you recognize from later projects, great acting, great writing. Some weird creative decisions like the narrator in that weird rotating glass thing but I can overlook that shit.

Top quality show, will be binging this shit like crazy cuz its 6 seasons long.

Also if you like Orange is the new black you will like this show. good watch to wait for next season.

It gave my niece, who was younger at the time, the feelings of justification over how black people and prisoners 'really are'.

That's all I know about it.

Damn, it's already been 11 years since Oz ended...I remember watching quite a few episodes back when it was airing..I don't really recall much in the way of story, just that it was a brutal realish look into that environment, i'll have to try to dig it up and watch a few eps...

I don't think it gave her a fair shake at 'actual life'.

such is the way of people who mistake television for real life, apparently. theres lots of melodrama in the show.

She was maybe 17 at the time.....

Such is the way TV implants false ideas to impressionable minds.

At 17 you should know the difference between tv and real life, shouldnt you?

I mean i can understand young children being impressed upon by tv. But 17?

Dude! Oz is like camping man.. intense! Dark dreams after watching for sure.

Most of the characters in The Wire were in that beforehand.

Sadly, I think there are loads of people over 17 who can't tell the difference.

I watched that show religiously when I had HBO back in the day.

All of it.

Viewer discretion..

It's not just Oz, its the news, mtv, bet, etc. And it's not just young people. If someone has limited direct contact with a group but a continuous one way connection to the most negative perceived aspects of that groups culture, how do you expect them to form their opinions. they will use the information most readily available to them, just as anyone would.
