Props to Waves for not being subjected by Geeno's fascist video-posting rules.

Meh, I'm underwhelmed.

I think it's because it doesn't look like a Star Wars film (shots, mood, etc).

It looks like JJ Abrams trying to ape a Star Wars film, which is what it technically is.

I'm going to reserve judgement, and there were a few small moments in the teaser that i was like "yeeeee" but overall it's just not grabbing me by the booboo.

that star wars film "feel" is just how movies in general felt at that time. when they tried to recapture that stylistic feel in the prequels it felt juvenile and outdated. like watching a sitcom from 40 years ago almost.

im a great fan of the abrams aesthetic and think applying it to the star wars universe can only bring good things. i mean you say that as if jj abrams style isnt one of the most well-crafted in modern movies, sci-fi in particular with the new star trek movies. you can make fun of the lens-flare all you want but hes amazingly talented at his craft.

i dont know what more you could ask for from a new star wars movie. should lucas come back and make the movie about trade agreements and jar jar binkses and shit? fuck that.

abrams 4 lyfe nigga

Yeah I'm not an Abrams fan I guess, to be truthful.

He can put a movie together and they look very pretty, but I've never gotten anything from his movies... in an esoteric, film-nerd, sort of way.
I just don't think he brings anything to the table where ~art~ is concerned.
Although I do agree that he is a talented technician certainly, I just don't think that he's an artist.

The original trilogy had style and substance. The second trilogy had some style, and no substance.

I'm worried that with Abrams at the helm this will be more of the same.

You make a fair point. Many directors would say they dont consider themselves to be artists. Technically its a craft more than an art. Although of course crafts are art and arts are crafts. I cant say whether the man is an artist nor do I think the labels are that important.

If you dont enjoy abrams, i think its fair to be skeptical of this project. But also, like star trek, I think his commitment to this series is less as an artist and more as someone who they hired for his ability to perform his craft at the absolute peak levels.

Remember that he wrote the script with the guy who co-wrote alot of amazing Lucas movies like Empire, Raiders, RoTJ. So its not just an abrams-centric movie, theres going to be lots of other people contributing and making this thing unique. To focus in on him as the absolute indicator of the quality of these may be folly!

It will the only trailer for it I watch. I want the story, the characters, the cast, all to be a surprise. And my expectations will be set to Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan 2 or whatever the fuck that flim-flam was he made.

For a single man to direct both Star Trek and Star Wars is an abomination against nature, in all probability. However, I am super-psyched about it. I was 10 when the first Star Wars came out. It was a life-shaping event, that movie. To see those characters again, aged as I have, will be really fun. And I'm sure Disney will do a great job with them. There will inevitably be detractors (I'm looking at you, Cracked), but so what? It's the bookend to a wild ride that has, in many ways, set the mood for my entire life.

I think anyone who watches Star Wars and/or Trek looking for anything but straight entertainment is probably watching a movie about space knights/pirates/whatever for the wrong reason.

Same goes for the people that point out scientific inaccuracy in a movie about an amusement park full of genetically modified cloned dinosaurs.

Yeah, like I said, I'm reserving judgement until I see it.
Now what I'm REALLY excited about are episodes VII and IX, because RIAN JOHNSON is directing 8 and writing both 8 & 9.
I'm very stoked about that.

I predict that the movie will be a well done and fun romp through a well established formula.

Also JJ Abrams is producing the Half-Life movie.

A Half-Life movie sickens me. The thought of Gordon Freeman talking makes me want to literally DIE

Maybe he will be in some kind of accident at the beginning rendering him mute.

lol how are you gonna make a movie where the main character is silent throughout?

Gordon Freeman not talking felt pretty contrived to me after I played through all the games but on the plus side it really helped add depth and character to the supporting cast.

Maybe they should just have Gordon be painfully shy in the movie and not talk most the time anyways.
