Survived a weekend in the desert, aka Coachella 2007.
Hardly saw any acts on the bill. I was stuck inside this geodesic dome housing a DJ booth for most of the weekend, dancing my ass off to mostly dnb/breaks. Notables in there were members of Junglist Platoon and Bassrush, DJs/MCs from the LA scene. MC Dino who's got an unmistakable flow, saw him open for Rabbit In The Moon with DJ Fury back in '03, chatted with him for a second. MC ? was there too, from the UK, aka MC Conrad (and Codebreaker, too, no?) XXXL and Hazen did a b2b set Sat. night after Nitro and a dubstep guy named Subflo opened. Trippy visuals all the time. Also saw Kraak and Smaak, and a special little performance by Felix da Housecat. Fool was mixing a 45 rpm record on an old crank gramaphone along with CDJs and decks. Fuckin crazy. Sunday is the day I saw the most acts. Caught the Roots on the way in, then saw Soulwax: Nite Versions and then Richie Hawtin. Caught the end of the Decemberists, then watched Cut Chemist for awhile (not very impressed). Then came mothafukin' PENDULUM. Dino and ? spittin' flows to that guy...really got shit going. Amazing. Total Science and Adam Freeland were up next, but I just had to... ...go and see Rage Against The Machine. Undeniably one of the most influential bands in my life for over ten years. The audio was fucked up for the first few songs, and they weren't as tight as they will be this summer (in terms of musicianship) but they played mostly stuff from the self-titled and Evil Empire (all I could have asked for) and had a fat encore with 'Freedom.' Very special moment for me. Other odds n ends were the end of Gogol Bordello's set (amazing energy, very impressed) and MSTRKRFT, as well as Ed Banger Cru (big remixes of floorbangers and pop songs, did a crushing remix of 'Killing In The Name Of') and Justice (didn't know about them but the crosses freaked me out), as well as well as the Arctic Monkeys and perry farrell's Satellite Party (fun to see Perry, they did a Jane's song or two). I dropped a couple hits of pretty high quality acid on Friday and tripped hard, just danced my ass off for five or six hours and that was the end of day 1. Dropped one hit just to maintain on Saturday but my behavior was mostly the same. No psychedelics on Sunday, and it was still fucking awesome. I went for the electronic acts, and ended up representing for CO and SoCal drum n bass enthusiasts. What more can one accomplish at a festival...? Edit: DJs in the dome spinning breaks Fri. night: Clutch, Drone and Sense of LA's Junglist Platoon (they're the folks who sponsor RESPECT, the longest-running weekly dnb in los angeles)

I'm going to see Tool tomorrow, I can't fucking wait. I feel all antsy and unable to sleep like a little kid on Christmas eve.

hooked thats cool, what the fuck does "geodesic" mean? was there a strictly DJ/hip hop tent at coachella?? sounds fphat yo...i think the new jazz tent will be a cool place to mellow out at roo htis year.
seeing gov't mule next sunday at day music festival at the beach that my dad is dragging me to. last time i saw these guys they blew the doors off. this time, there wont be any doors. and then Bonna "fucking" Roo. also with my dad. i can't wait. and then the bisco/umphrey's show in raleigh. this one should be a blast also...its really cool cause the regular bar/stage is closing down the entire street and hosting it on their street theatre since its two bands and gonna start a little earlier....BLOCK PARTY!!

It wasn't one of the tents. It was just this forty or fifty foot-tall dome in the middle of the fields between the outdoor stages and the tents. Strictly electronic music, not hip-hop. All DJ or CDJs or computers. It was quite fat. Got the best musical experience I've had (almost) at a stage that wasn't even described in the popular media/literature.
