Phish got to be as big as the dead with out the mainstream exposure, they had numerous concerts that for 2-3 days became the most populous cities in maine. Performing alone up to 7 sets in a weekend plus impromptu jams and traveling disco freekouts. They also accomplished all that they did in a way shorter time than the dead did. Time has yet to speak for phish as that they are only on an extended hiatus, but their legacy is one to rival the dead's.

no its not......the only reason phish became so popular is because everyone was grasping for a band to replace the grateful dead and that's all there was. They were just in the right place at the right time.

....im bias though.....phish is mediocre at best in my books. meh....i guess they're fine, but the whole scene just became kind of lame and inundated with stupid frat boys about the time phish got big and I have a hard time looking past that.

Mama tried to raise me right but her pleadings I denied.
There's no one but me to blame cause mama tried.

The real reason Phish got big was b/c they started out setting up and playing for free at campgrounds on dead tour. They even had a bumper-sticker that looked, at a distance, like the steal your face logo... but when you got up close it said "Steal Your Phans"

Phish is sick, probably on par with the dead in my mind. I certainly hope that its just an extended hiatus, having been a little young to see em live

tribe melts my face too
