ill be the first to admit i havent listened to much of his music at all, including the mixtapes.
but i just wanted to reply to the notion that underground artists are underground because of a lack of talent and mainstream artists are mainstream because of talent. this is completely false. mainstream artists are mainstream because multimillion dollar executives choose them to be mainstream artists, to be played by major radio stations, to play major venues, to sell cds to major record stores. very rarely will a very good artist become mainstream on their own will and talent. why arent waynes mixtapes being played all day on the radio like the carter cds or whatever the fuck theyre called? because that shit is irrelevent to a&r or whoever the hell is pimping little wayne for his money. and shit. i thought they were actually tapes, these "mixtapes." please, recommend me some 'mixtapes' from this post-2000 rapper so i can fairly judge his music to be garbage. |

^i dont know if i agree with you there.
i would say that a vast majority of people like him on a superficial level, and only like him for the very reason that he is mainstream (in other words, being played to all those different audiences). its not like all these different cultures and people are going out on their own accord to support and like him, thats just the way it is because hes played all the fucking time and is hyped up with marketing. im not saying thats the case with you, just most people that buy and listen to his music. edit: thanks for the suggestions |

GHM is awfully up in arms about Wayne.
I'm not going to go on a long rant about how he lacks in some of the fundamental areas of being an MC because I've already done it half a million times. Dude certainly has swagger down, and he at least uses (not very well however) metaphors and similies, which is more than you can say about most rappers now. The argument here however (when I made the thread at least) is that the Carter 3 is garbage, and my point still stands. It is garbage. 3,549 mixtapes and guest spots aside, aside from Tie My Hands the album itself is garbage. He's got some nice songs on mixtapes, and that's great, but the album itself is terrible. Grieves as nice as that analogy was, I've no problem indulging in a "big mac" as far as music goes. With rap it's a little harder however because the stuff on the radio is generally complete trash. Rock it's at least a little better on occasion. If I was going to listen to some "big mac" rappers, I'd throw on Clipse, Ludacris, Eminem, shit I'd even listen to GRODT and before 50 Cent. I just can't do the auto-tune, trying too hard, bullshit lyrics of C3. |

damn you beat me to it oss. its hilarious when ppl resort to those types of posts "go listen to talib, mos, roots, tribe, nas bla bla bla bullshit you know?
incomparible and shit.. like dude (smb43432) said b/f "You can't judge his music by his mainstream songs. I like his mixtape stuff even more. Also the carter 1 and 2 have some pretty good songs. I agree the carter 3 is only mediocre at best. Prolly on to many drugs and has to much money to care about it anymore. last sentance was qft Last edited by smokedadope; 07-09-2008 at 11:41 AM. |

The only relevance that a bunch of legendary underground rappers have when being compared with Wayne is that they do what he claims he does so much better. The metaphors and similes everyone poops themselves over are actually very basic, but compared to everyone else in the mainstream game now, he's really the only one focusing on it, so it seems novel and well done.

Well played, minus the obvious cherry picking you accused everyone of earlier.
Don't forget these gems: "work you out like a bowflex" "tight like a pussy" "venereal disease like a menstrual bleed" "wet like new rain" All from C3 (can you say the same?) and terrible enough to almost erase any of those ones you posted (which were all pretty damned good). Not only are they all basic, but the VD one doesn't even make any sense. Although I guess if you're busy kissing grown men you don't learn much about the female reproductive system.

Fair enough. I'm just giving you a hard time anyway.
By the way even Ja Rule can come up with a hot line. Anyone remember "Em, you claim your mothers a crackhead and Kim is a known slut, so what's Hailie gon' be when she grows up?" Then there's 50's gem of: "homie you a bitch u got feminine ways heard you got 4 lips and bleed for 7 days i got 4 fifths and bananas on the k's i got mo' whips than a runaway slave" Certainly the best things either of them have said in at least 5 years. |

"When people like wayne come out and people are convinced that he's the best it's embarrassing to hip hop and it's embarrassingly to humanity."
Am I clear?
