collecting records is an expensive hobby especially when mp3s are free.
but i have a bunch of em- i didnt realize early on that it would be cheaper to get the more expensive turntables that can read cds and let u scratch cds with the fake-platter vinyl then it was to buy direct drive turntables but then have to buy all the music u want to play on them individually as vinyls. |

personally i think the quality of vinyls often sucks compared to mp3s so i feel ya there. i mean some people think its better because its analogue but for my ear what vinyls normally mean is static and pops- the main reason i have em is to do scratching and djing (beatmatching and fading and mixing etc)... because unless u have those cd turntables i was talking about (and i know some ppl who do they work really really well) then u have no other choice but to use vinyls. |

![]() ![]() Bought the Fugazi vinyl for myself, girl was kind enough to buy me the Crosby Nash Live one. She also was real real sweet and surprised me with two books on vinyl, one being the 33 1/3 book on XO that I've wanted for forever and ever and never bought and the other that I saw somewhere and was interested in. I'm pumped to read them. I'll probably geek it out too and toss on the XO vinyl while I read the first. |

Got 3 more today...
Radiohead - OK Computer Tool - Lateralus(Ltd. Picture Disc) Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping and IWABO - It's All Happening finally came in the mail yesterday. I have a really hard time choosing what to get. Records are so damn expensive compared to my 10,000+ song digital collection which I have never paid a cent for.

Radiohead was $24 +tax. Word that's what I mostly have... Second Helping was 3 bucks. Only problem is most of the used records at the 3 stores around my house are shitty singles by shitty rappers. And the ones that aren't, usually are either music I don't like or in such bad condition that it wouldn't be worth my money.

I just got a basket full of old 78s... like mad old waltzes from the 50s.
Looking forward to going through it. They've got not cases unfortunately. They're in pretty good condition though.

Last three I finally grabbed up after waiting forever. Was a damn fine show except for Toki Wright. Even Evidence was good. I also sorta insulted dude's DJ when he tried to sell me his crap and then I didn't feel bad once I saw him awkwardly waving his arms.

Discogs - Database and Marketplace for Music on Vinyl, CD, Cassette, MP3 and More
Plus, whoever said .mp3's can sound better than vinyl is clearly nuts. lol Digital distortion, ughh... on monitors/decent cans... mp3's sound awful, always... even the best quality ones sound tinny compared to vinyl imo... which goes for cd's aswell, I love CDJ's but would never swap my technics for em... pops and hiss on old records is annoying, but still sounds richer I think. I personally buy vinyl as I am a dj and record collector... its a hobby/lifestyle... saying we ditched vinyl for cassettes to me is like telling a comic collector that Watchmen is available and more advanced on bluray, so the comic is now irrelevant. |

I used to have a pretty good sized record collection, I sold most of them to pay off debts though. My record collection now is much, much smaller.
My favorite record that I still have is Eat A Peach from the Allman Brothers that my mom's ex-husband gave to me. I also give one Sunn O))) record that I can't remember the name of at the moment a good amount of plays... I'm a fan of Drone shit when I'm high. I also have a few random older Electronic records my former History teacher gave me that I'm a fan of. |
