stormblast is good, but the newer dimmu rules as well, amazing orchestrations.

i see what you're getting at, ego. there are a lot of facets to metal as a musical phenomenon. you have your cuntchrist analeaters, vampire bullshit, neonorse warrior glorification crap, neonazi hate-spewers, and on and on. what tickled my fancy as a younger lad was the philosophy of nihilism which i found readily expressed and exemplified in some of the earlier black metal. it's summed up pretty nicely in a line written by dead, former vocalist of mayhem:

i am a mortal but am i human?
how beautiful life is now when my time has come.
a human destiny, but nothing human inside
what'll be left of me when I'm dead,
there was nothing when I lived.

that's from a tune called life eternal, and while i certainly perceive things differently now it's hard not to honor the verity of that approach and the meaning (or here: the lack of meaning) it offers in this challenge called life.

so yeah metal's mighty silly and stuff but i appreciate its hand in helping to get me where i'm at as the ever-curious thinker i am and always have been. plus there's nothing quite like the fist-pumping brutal riffs and transitions offered up as only the genre of metal can do proper

and with that, here's a much-needed injection of mayhem for this thread:

But with the Metal genre in particular growing and expanding into so many varying sub-genres over the years, it's getting hard to tell what demographic some of these new bands are a part of!

@cerpin hence the reason I am against the over-genrelization of music. its retarded, and bands should be based on their own merits, not judged on their sub sub sub sub genres merits.

Every genre should only have two sub genres, "Good" and "Shit"

I myself am a bigger fan of heavy metal, some death metal, thrash, groove...

Idk, never been to big of a black metal fan myself. Some of the stuff is great some of the stuff is whack imho.

All depends on what your ears like. I guess every genre is full of shit, but there's something good buried beneath the steaming pile of shit.
