Good SKA bands? - Pick it up, pick it up, pick it up

What are your favorite (if any) ska/rocksteady bands. I'd prefer to keep dancehall, ragga, reggae etc. out of this for now. Any of the waves are acceptable - 1st wave, 2nd wave, 3rd wave, punk-ska, ska-core, ska-hip hop etc. I'll start my list here:

Laurel Aitken
Judge Dread
Prince Buster
Madness
The specials/the special a.k.a.
The selector
The Untouchables
Fishbone
Symarip
Operation Ivy (their ska driven stuff)
Skankin' Pickle
Sublime (their more ska stuff)
Street light manifesto
Less than jake (older)
Reel big fish
Mad Caddies
Hepcat
The Slackers
The Pietasters
The Skatalites
The Cherry Poppin' Daddies
Link 80
Mu330
Choking victim/leftover crack
Los Nino Zombies

I think my favorite ska is the early Skinhead stuff like Laurel Aitken, symarip and Judge dread...It's funny how the term skinhead kind of became the opposite of what it originally stood for.

The First Suicide Machines Album is real tight and impressive,
for someone like me that doesn't like ska.

It is a must hear.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2WHPg3UuKyc&color1=0 xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfc fcf&hl=en&feature=pl ayer_embedded&fs=1"> </param><param name="allowFullScree n" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAcc ess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2WHPg3UuKyc&color1=0 xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfc fcf&hl=en&feature=pl ayer_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="tru e" allowScriptAccess="a lways" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The Suicide Machines were an American punk rock band formed in March 1991 in Detroit, Michigan and disbanded in May of 2006. During the course of their
career the band released six full-length albums on the labels Hollywood Records and Side One Dummy Records. Though they experienced several lineup
changes over the years, founding members Jason Navarro and Dan Lukacinsky remained regular fixtures. The band's musical style initially blended elements
of punk rock, ska, and hardcore into a genre popularly known as ska punk or "ska-core," which characterized their first two albums. During the middle of
their career they shifted gears, moving away from this sound and producing two albums with a heavy pop rock influence. Their final two albums moved back
towards their mid-1990s style, bringing back heavy ska punk and hardcore elements.

Despite being signed to a major record label for their first four albums, The Suicide Machines did not experience significant mainstream success. However,
they did achieve a relatively high level of underground recognition through relentless touring, including multiple performances on the Warped Tour. This trend
continued when the band moved to an independent label for their last four years, before their breakup brought an abrupt end to the band's career.

Yeah, I heard of them, and seen flyers but haven't the pleasure.

Mostly, they play Brownsville, mostly.

That city is too violent for my pretty face.

Shit. The suicide machines. Forgot about them too. It's been years since I've even heard their name. Great band.

And fucking mustard plug. I can't believe I didnt put them down. Their "Gin and juice" cover is awesome.

Goldfinger I'm not too into...But shit man. The aqua bats. They were probably my favorite band when I was 12 and mormon haha.. Don't get me wrong. Theyre incredible. I'm just saying theyre a great band for a 12 year old mormon (btw I was only mormon for 2 years haha).

Buck o nine and lets go bowling were badass as hell.

Check this out:

I prefer 1st wave and 2tone, but a lot of 3rd wave and skacore are great.

Oh shit. I almost forgot AGAINST ALL AUTHORITY.

I think ska and other styles are derivitives of the polka
or atleast influenced by folk music.

There's a big "CrossOver" polka scene here in Texas; "Dance Hall Music".

It just makes people wanna dance.

They do have similarities, but ska was derived mostly from Calypso and Northern Soul. It was the closest jamaicans could get to rock/soul...or the closest they wanted to get?

Hey, you're right.

I was wrong.

I was getting my American Regional New World Polka and Old World Polka confused.

New World Chicago, Dutchman-style, "Push" Polka has two (2) beats (cut time like ska)

The Tuba plays the Um-pa / Um-pa / 1-2 / 1-2

In Texas, the Push Polka, the Tuba is replaced by the guitar.

The guitar does the Um-pa using the "Ska" "Skank" technique -strumming up.

That's where the two converge, and where I got confused.

They both developed differently but have almost the same sound,
because of the cut time 2/2 and the ska "skank" guitar.

Yeah you're totally right. It is the same guitar riddim. Polka is gnarly. I prefer Mariachi, but ya know.
