it's just a midi controller, but a nice one. It's really more geared towards live performance but there's not much I couldn't do with the mpk going into the mpc. That would basically cut my computer right out of the equation.

ya, i used to to everything start-to-finish on my fantom. i think you'd be better off selling your mpk and getting a full workstation, like one of those new fantom G's.. you could end up spending about the same on one dope workstation as the cost of your mpk + mpc.

Not really, as I said I could probably even rock the mpc500 which is like 500 bucks max used... Sequencing by ear makes better music anyways. Besides, I use samples more than anything else, I don't need to be paying 2k for a bunch of shitty synth voices that I'll never use.

i never really trust used gear though.. i always like getting my shit new. i've had buddies who have gotten used mpc's, and after less than a year they're down to 8 pads pretty much. so look out for that.

and if you use mostly samples, you could pretty much do everything on your mpc and just keep the mpk to rock live performances and stuffs. i'm with you on the 'i don't need keys' and shit, as i usually sample my synth and bass parts.. any melodic shit pretty much, haha

most of my older north-eastern soul is on wax and is impossible to find for upload.. my buddy's going to lend me his wax converter thing sometime soon though, and then i can up all those old EPs and even some newer ones like michael speaks and stuff.

That's amazing! Gotta love the old popcorn wylie stuff as well.. haven't seen any on vinyl.. Old Okeh, etc.. I used to have a huge Vinyl northern soul collection but I traded in most of it for 60's reggae and 70's punk over the years... STUPID ME! Never a day I don't regret it!
