Down with major label industry!

Record Labels Face $60 Billion Damages for Pirating Artists

As an up-and-coming musician myself its great to see shit like this. I cant wait until these ancient methods of product distribution are finally gone and we can foster a positive creative community of artists without the middle man bullshit.

dinosaurs are dying!

thoughts?

I will miss the record companies, personally. Growing up I was always enthralled by the image of big time record producers making *stars* out of young up and comers. The dream was always to be discovered and offered a record deal by some cigar chomping sleeze bag in a flashy suit. Yep, that was the dream all right. "You're gonna be the next big thing, kid!". World tours, platinum albums, fancy recording studios and radio station promotions, groupies and, of course, money.

What will the new dream be? I just don't know.

you romanticize an awful lot, merc. i don't think anyone dreams of working for a record company as a successful musician. i think they dream of making music that people enjoy and being able to live off it.

i sorta see your point, in a you dont really know how the business works but like to think about what it would be like to have alot of success in it type way.

the truth is that dream was never there. its a shady business run by shady people with shady interests and always has been. go look at what happened to elvis. how his management treated him. or the beatles. they were swindled by shady fucks in suits who knew law and business practice. so they start their own record company, apple, and get fucked even harder with that whole mess.

platinum albums will always be around. superstars will always be around. big fancy recording studios will always be around.

money-grubbing middle-men suits with no talent making money off of the hard work and creativity of real honest people is whats getting the boot.

Malevolent Creation, big time European death metal record label band comes to our town.

We go backstage, and our dreams were shattered.

Both Guitarist are cooks, and the bassist is in construction.
The drummer, who was new, was the only "Session Player" playing from band to band for money.
They work in the winter and tour in the summer.
ALA "Point Break" with patrick swayze.

They had a bus, catering, backstage dressing rooms, all that shit,
but they had no money.

At 16, my eyes were opened.

This is the Rock and Roll lifestyle,

Living day to day, eating hand to mouth when possible,
and living on a bus and hotel rooms.

While working two jobs with two bosses.

After the digital recorders came out.
Record Labels were bypassed.
