Dinosaur Jr.

I just got their Dinosaur album.

Pretty surprised that I never listened to them until now.

Very impressed.

I havent heard them since I was wearing jeans full of sulphuric acid holes and plaid was all the rage.

Oh and the movie "Singles" was a big hit/smashing pumpkins were just coming out of their pumpkin shell.

YES!!!!! This band is Awesome!!!!! Glad you discovered some good old shit man.

I think it falls into the 'posthardcore' label often but I don't even know what that means? Because so is the band I suggest below as well.....

This is from one my favorite albums.

If you ever want any of this stuff I have about 4-5 albums from these fellas. And a few more from these guys too......

Fugazi Good good shit. Has a little more edge, but is really a cool blend of styles as well. 13 songs is the classic, but they are all so good and different. This youtuber's got most of the albums.

(live) Pretty groovy to watch this one:

idk bro I was listening to The Get Up Kids in 99 when I was like 13, so I survived thus far.

lol at the thought of me being an indie scene kid.

I've messed around with fugazi before, but I don't think I had that album. I remember not being able to make it too far without hearing about fugazi for a while... I feel like I've heard of Dinosaur Jr all my life and just kind of overlooked it.

edit: Aint gonna act like I'm above playing up my indie side for some of that scene pussy

Indie is the philospophy of the music more than the style I think...

well... it's sorta part and parcel.

What would you label Sonic Youth?
They rocked the scene since the 81, most of the time was on Geffen records, a major label.

The new stuff is pretty decent too, although mellowed

Not quite like when Helmet got back together That just sounded like CKY remixed with old Helmet.

^ From 1994's "With out a sound"

Which is by all rights a solo record since most of the band left. A Studio musician filled in on bass and harmony

It's cool to hear the mellow and the tension ebb and flow in this stuff. The melancholy and the chaos.

"You're living all over me" and "Bug" are more edgy and this S/T is totally like the stuff Geeno posted in reply to 'what do they sound like'. Green mind, between WOAS and Bug, was virtually a Mascis, and was the sole member of the band playing, other than the drummer who only played on a few tracks.

From a Green mind:

It's about time. You're Living All Over Me is actually one of my favorite albums. Sadly I'm always forgetting it's greatness and then I put it on and am kinda overwhelmed when I remember how much I actually love the album. I was also real impressed with Beyond. Not fuckin bad for the first album in 10 years.

Also gotta respect Fugazi. Good posts all around.

Good call. Sometimes in haste I forget that I don't like labels.

You living all over me is a GREAT album.

I feel so with the music. It's such an organic feeling even though the gain is through the roof, blasting psychedelic pop sweet rock tunes.

That is an album with good production. And man... I can only imagine what they are like live. Sonic Youth struck me as sensory over load, locked in like a trace and collapsing at the end of the set!

yeah You're Living All Over Me is certainly my favorite album, and I completely agree with Sage, "Little Fury Things" is easily one of my favorite songs. I'd love to see them live, I've also heard they are very fucking loud.

yeah my older friend who actually knows lou barlow got me into dino jr. and sebadoh and even some of lou's solo stuff.

these guys have been rockin hard for like 30 years now, I hope they keep at it. keep on rockin in the free wooooorld.

and geeno I knew you'd like them seeing as we are brothers from another mother and what not

Dino Jr. is the best! I love all their albums, but their newest album Farm is the best of them all IMO. Just straight up rock and roll other than their little "indie" phase.

I seen Dino Jr. twice and both times it was awesome!
