I was quite impressed with that song Kids. But I never got into them past their radio airplay. They seemed quite like Silversun Pickups. If I had to guess I would reckon the albums instrumentals fall flat quickly and that the lyrics may feign complexity but the delivery is less than convincing?

i'm just guessing, i haven't heard the album.

I'm not feeling it, maybe it needs more listens or to listen to it after toking. Their last album was much better.

bad guess...

they are nothing like the silversun pickups...

Please listen before you make assumptions....

I like it quite a bit, right now the songs that i like the most are "somebody's missing" and "I found a whistle"

I agree with him that they are like the Silversun Pickups in the sense when you first listen to them, it sounds kinda "gay." Don't get me wrong, I like MGMT, but when I first heard them, that's the impression I got. Although MGMT >>> Silversun Pickups.

pfft...you could say that about any two bands...

"dude those guys sound kinda gay"

"oh yeah like those other guys"

wtf is that supposed to even mean, other than you don't know how to distinguish between sounds well and have no grasp on how to use adjectives.....

been listening to it a bit more, its slowly growing on me. i like the trippy songs like lady dadas nightmare and siberian breaks. cool melodies even if they are recycle from 60s-80s psych rock/prog.

i would give this album a solid 7.9/10

lol,

So if you listened to Sublime, you'd think they sound gay? I guess in your sense of relativity, perhaps it is. Perhaps you are the music police when you attempt to force people to "not be willing ignorant" and differentiate in detail the uniqueness of every band. You maybe one of those new age folks that so offended by the usage of the word "gay." Who knows, but my point wasn't to offend, which is why I put it in quotations.

On first listen, both bands have singers with feminine voices, more so with the Silversun Pickups than MGMT. The first time I heard the Silversun Pickups, I thought that dude was a chick. Both bands also shoegaze based with a poppy sound that is trendy. MGMT is more psychedelic about it. Sure they are obvious stylistic differences, but the basis is right on, as simple and ignorant as it may sound to you. Also in my opinion, Silversun Pickups are going to be the Nickelback of this decade.

Yeah I caught the first performance last night and it was horrible.

they're definitely better at writing music than they are performing it

which i guess is better than the opposite, but a great artist can do both

To be honest it was real bad and I couldn't even tell if the arrangement or whatever you're getting at was good because it sucked. It was just terribly bland.

the particular songs they played are the worst of the album in my opinion, and the ones i like i cant see being halfway decent in a live setting, ones 12 minutes long and the other ones just piano with a bunch of weird synths

There have been many many musicians that are great crafters of art but just arent entertainers or arent comfortable on stage

bob dylan's whole career comes to mind

yeah, sure...but they had to have been pretty epic to last throughout the years. MGMT will fizzle out, because they can't withstand any of that sheeeeit man
