Moar Folk Music pls
Folk music is a very broad term. Country, blues, bluegrass, hymns and spirituals, and folk music from other countries as well. post it all.

I'll start country w/ one of my all time favourite albums... to me it's so beautiful and full of emotion... I just love it....
Turkish style This is a band I saw in Hungary that I thought did a really cool job of mixing folk styles with new styles.... And now for a more trad tune... Now Indian tradition.... One of my ALL time favourite songs.... This WHOLE album is greatness!!!!

Probably my second favorite version of this great Richard Thompson song.
This is definitely bluegrass music, what with Del's "High Lonesome" voice but it's as folk as you can get.

Where are the women?
Gillian Welch is one of the most influential bitches in my heart. Totally overhauled what I listened to, and how I listened to it. Folk seeps into everything though, new, old. It's everywhere. Patty Griffin, Dar Williams, Janis Ian, Ani D, K.D., Emmylou Harris, Lucinda fucking Williams. Women got some fuckin stories to tell too, guys  I guess it really depends what you want to call folk. Cuz all I think it needs is a story, heart, and a special kinda twang. But I know some of you are particular but this chick covers one of my favorite GW songs, and I've grown to love it more than the originals. (this ones a fuckin talent though. Look into her)

yeah I like female folk singers too, I was gonna make a post with Joan Baez was just deciding on what songs. those were all the just the first ones that came to mind. but to be honest I do prefer mostly male vocalists, call it a guy thing or something. it's just easier to relate to men singing about women.
as a matter of fact Dylan told Joan Baez that "only men can write good songs", or something along those lines.
