you just need to practice, and drop the i never will be good thought process.

youll eventually surprise yourself with how well you are doing, and how much progress youve made.

if you feel like youre not progressing, take 1 lesson and i bet youll start moving forward again. and its not like youll forget what youve learned, just keep improving steadily at w/e pace you like and one day you will be quite good

music is something that will really change you and your perception of the world, its like a universal language, you gotta learn to speak it before you can appreciate the nuances and subtleties that make it so amazing.

Precision and technique can become very boring. Thankfully it takes many years to fully develop them.

As a player, you would do well to continue what you are doing and focus on your roll in the pieces that you will be playing.

Advice: forget about the pop & slap for now... it's a really laborious technique that isn't useful in many musical styles. In fact, a lot of times it's an all or nothing thing.

If all you want to play is slap bass then by all means, but if it's only going to be a facet of your playing it'll probably come off as cliche.

And like Mafoo said, forget the "i'll never be" mentality. It's destructive. Think "I'll get this someday." Remember that everyone starts at the same spot.

Keep at it, you'll get it!
