ok. quality of sound is better with analog. it has that analog feel. otherwise, yes, you probably can create the same sounds on software.
to me, the biggest difference is the inspiration. I cannot explain to you the inspiration one gets from walking into a room with a million knobs and sliders and glowing lights and touch ribbons, etc. The inspiration and ease of use of analog equipment not only facilitates music creation, it inspires and increases quality of the ending audio product.

agreed.
I've stood in the local music shop many a times and fiddles with their synths. I've often tried to map out all of the Massive synth to my novation, but I just can't quite take my eyes of the screen. I really like the idea of just turning knobs úntil something kick ass comes along. The soft synths have done a lot for modular synthesis. Just look at a beast like massive, and all the routing possibillities. I can't imagine how much that shit would cost if it was pure hardware. But at the end of the day it's a mix of preference and using the right tool for the right job.

as the don knows, i like soft synths because i have virtually unlimited ammount of compressors and mixers and routing. i cant imagine the pain of having to resample everything to layer fx. not sure its worth the pain imo

yeah but those are plugins for the most part not software synthesizers, but i agree 100%
ill take a small hit on quality in exchange for immediate awesomeness. as awesome as it is running say drums through the serge or whatever outboard gear, it is a BITCH to route and set up. especially when i can load up something in a couple clicks that can be perfectly automated and synced with the project. in my eyes you need the best of both worlds, analog sound with digital control!

Takes me back about 40 years or so.
![]() When Isao Tomita and "Walter" Carlos were all the rage in electronic realization. They were more skilled, but not as creative, if that makes sense. nice sounds m0rb1d. very nice.

I love VSTi plug ins just because they're cheap and easy to use, but it is so hard trying to come up with music just sitting there clicking a mouse in cubase! I definitely need some beastly hardware such as that animal in your first post, but I would spend so much time just fiddling with it and getting it set up that I probably would never get anywhere, sort of the opposite to how I rarely get anywhere with just software, rather than a lack of inspiration, it'd be a lack of hours in the day! E2A - just had a listen to your track "Deadhau5" and have to say it is fucking ace! Very well structured and produced, I wish I had a J to puff on while listening to it!
