Mercury's "Dissect The Top 5 Singles" Thread
1. Stereo Hearts - Gym Class Heros & Adam Levine
Currently this is the song that is played every 10 minutes on the radio. I can't believe this song made it to #1. The chorus does not match any of the verses at all and the beat is way too clunky to feel. Mostly I think this song is so popular because Adam Levine is riding high on his TV show and song with Christina Aguilera. And the Gym Class Heros, try as they may, will never be considered a great group, not even for the decade. 2. Without You - David Guetta & Usher This song is what happens when pop music makes love songs for middle schoolers. It feigns sincerity, but falls so short of it that it cannot be taken seriously by adults. I'm sure this song goes over well at high school dances and such. If they only understood that it is a rehash x100000. 3. Someone Like You - Adele This song is best if you only listen to it once. It loses most of it's potency after the second or third time. I think most people will admit that they find Adeles voice unique and all, but on this song it is way overused in the chorus... the repatitive chorus! I think the chorus is played about 14 times in thie song. It doesn't help that there is only a piano to back it up. 4. You Make Me Feel - Cobra Starship This is the first song on this list that I half-enjoy. It's uptempo and has a good balance of male-female vocals and I think the production has a clean sound. But overall I will not miss this one when it falls off the radar because it is mostly a rip off of all of last years singles. 5. Moves Like Jagger - Adam Levine & Christina Aguilera I didn't like this song at first. Then I liked it. Now I'm indifferent to it. I think the lyrics are actually very good on this one, they're pleasantly open ended and kind of positive. I think Christina comes in really strong for her part. And it has a good bass line. I think after this one is on ice for a while I will like it again in the future. |

Top 5 singles:
1. Sir-Ex Unfathomably handsome and generally awesome in almost every way, save for a few minor errors which serve only to embellish the good qualities even further. 2. Mr. T Single only by physical location. Mr. T is a mysterious she-hottie from an Eastern land. Her striking eyes and youthful beauty is enough to ensnare even the most discerning of young bachelors. 3. Terry This quaint Montanan man comes complete with a set of irresistible pouty lips, extendable arms of manly proportion, and a sense of style and grace to rival the most distinguished aristocrat. 4. sok Someone save this man. 5. southFL Yo Not technically single, but might as well be. This sad bastard is so unhappy he spends his days excreting whatever nonsense that shits out of his demented mind in the form of one-sided, half-baked internet banter.

Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion... amazing singers, rich ballad makers. This was a time when it was important to be smooth. |

Song's from one's own collection is always a better sample than some arbitrary list of the bands who's labels pay the most to sponsors to have them played over and over on a top 40 station...

All the songs on the list...it's like picking the worst disease out of a list of diseases, when we all know there are so many more worse diseases out there that could have been listed!
