Entry Level Studio Monitors

anyone know of any good monitors that run about 2-500$? so far ive heard the Alesis M1's and KRK8's are pretty good.

Alesis M1 Active mk2 Biamp Monitors at zZounds
M1Active MKII

i know nothing about brand names, so i need some help!

edit: so far im liking the specs and price on the monitor one MKII by Alesis

monitors are used for mixing tracks, in a studio. the higher end monitors give you a very "true" reperesentation of the sound as opposed to speakers which might be missing frequencies or artificially raising certain frequencies. if you dont use monitors to mix, your mix might sound good on one system and terrible on another.

and yes my car does occasionally stall when im low on gas. these are going to be a gift, if thats why youre asking.

I got the KRK 5s. Pretty decent, totally satisfied. I think if you're doing serious mixing you're better off getting the bigger ones. I need a small setup since I live in a small apartment.

A friend also recently got some behringer's that sound pretty good. I said "oh, behringer's" and he explained that they actually made something right this time (something good for cheap) and reviews are almost unanimously positive.

thanks for the input, and nice avatar btw.

im kinda in the same situation as you, i live at home and my "studio" is my bedroom, so i feel like the acoustics arent going to be perfect regardless of the set up.

do the KRK's come with any type of warranty? im kinda concerned about longevity as monitors are kinda pricey, and i probably wouldnt be able to replace any for a long time.

It didn't take long to find some negative feedback on these. I understand that there's negative FB on everything, but have a look at what these guys have to say...FTR, I think Alesis makes some nice stuff.
Alesis M1 Active Mk2 Monitors user reviews and opinions

Have you looked at Behringer? Look at the Behringer Truth B3031A.
Amazon.com: Behringer Truth B3031A 2-Way Active Ribbon Studio Reference Monitor with Kevlar Woofer, Single Speaker: Musical Instruments

Behringer gets a bad rap because up until about 5 years ago, a lot of their stuff came from third party vendors. That was one of the ways that they kept cost down. They now have something called "Behringer City" where 3000 employees live on site and quality control is finely tuned in the manufacturing process.

Read up on them a little more.

lol i thought maybe you were drunk or something.

i went with the KRK's because ive heard alot of good things about them, and they are supposedly quite solid as far as durability.

i need a bigger desk now though, they are kinda large for the size of my room.

i was thiniking about getting these

Amazon.com: Bose Companion 20 Multimedia Speaker System: Electronics

not exactly monitors, but i saw them at best buy running and they sounded fucking unbelievable.

the bass is great , but i still wasnt sure if it would be noticeably better than my larger computer speakers that have a seperate sub.
so i still havent gotten around to getting em . but they iz on tha list

Glad you went with the KRKs. Just saw this thread and was about to recommend them.
