Outside of playing the guitar these two have nothing in common.

Valens spearheaded Latino Rock and his music was primarily written around the I IV V progression Much of what he recorded during his brief career would probably be filed under pop rock by today's definition.

Havens was an icon in Folk Music who played a 3 hour set to open Woodstock. He was very rhythmic, super charged you could say, when it came to his playing.

You may as well say that SRV was a poor man's Hendrix.
