Hey Friends,

Am sure this is a topic that's been done before, so screw it.

Reggae music brightens my day and the music that started it, and came out of it....
Lyrically I really enjoy it, which I can't say for all music.

A lot of hope and hardship in them.
Uplifting and anti-oppressive.

It's like Gospel music to my heart....
Bob Marley & the Wailers - Hallelujah Time - YouTube
Musically, it's rhythm oriented, depending on the flavour,
the pace can change a bit to suit different moods.

I like that too.
Sometimes I need a beat to match my pace....
Jackie Mittoo - Get Up & Get It - YouTube
others I need to sit back and do some thinking.
Augustus Pablo - King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown [full album] - YouTube
But what ties this all together into a 'favourite style' for me....

That we can make it vibration.
And that is the essence of what I like the most.
That hope and perseverance... and just having a good time with each other.

Even when it's hard, that is okay, we'll keep on, keepin' on.

This discussion doesn't need to include Rastarfari philosophy...
But it'd be pretty cool if it veered off that way at some point.

This stuff ties into that uplifting vibe.

Exodus, Exile, Being in Babylon... it's all about the quest for returning home...
to the Higher-Self, that Interconnected place in us All.

"We aren't here to judge good from bad, but do the things that are right" -The Wailers

So for now... some songs:
Peter Tosh - Equal Rights (HD) - YouTube

Max Romeo & The Upsetters - "I Chase The Devil" - YouTube
I'm including this one, because it's interesting to see how Indian religion came to the Caribbean, mixed with Christian and Folks religion from Africa, which was is in and of itself, full of Judaic customs....

This is an Indian man, with Islander parents, who grew up in England....
This is a Reggae-Hindu fusion song... Pretty neat circle:
apache indian om numah shivaya - YouTube

Alton Ellis - Get Ready - YouTube

Bad Brains - I Luv I Jah - YouTube

Prince Fatty - Shimmy Shimmy Ya ft. Horseman - YouTube

reggae is my favorite type of music to dance to.

ska is fun too.
a ska show was the first concert i really let loose at and was the first time i danced really i believe. skankin lol.
Also was first time i ever danced with a girl (and she was like mega pretty, and i found her on facebook years later and have been waiting for her to break up with her long term boyfriend ever since.)

oh man was that a good show. Streetlight manifesto. So much energy.
also was the first time i got drunk at a concert, first time i got stoned at a concert, and first and only time i ever crowd surfed.

side note:

it is surprisingly hard to play and keep the simple reggae rhythm on a guitar

Ah man.... Glitch city.... Sorry about those ugly posts.... :o

Thanks for the replies.

fender, I found bass lines pretty challenging as well, especially the quick octaves.

Thanks for the station bump.

Not rap, but 'Dubside of the moon' is pretty cool and fitting.

Or 'Dubber side' for that matter

I love dance hall... it's my i feel like a badass music... Dance Hall would be one of my favorite types of music if it wasn't for the gay bashing. My favorite thing about music are the lyrics...

fenderbender 10-17-2013 09:38 PM

i find it harder to improvise solos, so i can keep the beat as long as you do the lead

Thanks for all your posts man. Really enjoyed them.

I particularly like the Jamaican version/mix/ordering of this album:

Bob Marley - Catch a fire (Deluxe Edition - Jamaican versions) - Remastered (Full Album) [HD] - YouTube

I really like the sweetness of this album and the following one 'Burnin'.
Good vocals arrangements.
